12 month old has a wet cough that won't go away

Is it typical for a cough/congestion to last this long?

About 3 weeks ago he came down with a runny nose, no doubt because his nannyshare buddy had one too.

He's had a wet mucus-y cough for a week or so now, and the runny nose is much better.

How long should I expect the cough to last? Anything I can do for it?

Have you been to the doctor? Called the doctor? I would definitely get a cough like that checked out.
My baby had similar symptoms and turned out she had an ear infection.

My pedi said that if cold symptoms last more than 10-14 days, come in because it could be a sinus infection.

Having said that, there does seem to be a virus going around that causes a lingering cough in a lot of people.

I'd still talk to the pedi though.

I called the ped after two weeks of a wet cough for my 3yo. They said it could last up to 6. Now it's been 4...

They did ask if she had any other symptoms, which she doesn't -- no fever, sneezing, behavior changes, etc etc. Just nasty wet cough, mostly at night.

And they suggested lots of things, none of which I think really helped much -- but I imagine the suggestions would be different for a 12 mo old and a 3yo, so I don't want to lead you astray. I know humidifiers are supposed to be helpful at any age, though.

Ditto on possible ear infection.

I would guess that he had an ear infection. Some kids don't seem to feel any pain when they have an ear infection and it goes on and on.

My 1 yo. also had a wet cough for a couple of weeks. Turned out to be a sinus infection (lingering effects of a cold). After 5 days of antibiotics (stays in system for 10 days), he is good as new.

OP here. He was just in for his 1 year checkup last week, and ears looked fine. Guess I could call the ped anyway though...

A week is really nothing as far as wet cough goes. There is one this season that seems to just linger and linger.

Short of any other troubling symptoms I'd just watch and wait for now.

Oh, and dittoing cool mist vaporizer. Amazing what a difference that makes.
