College Park is so cool now

Anonymous
The town is undergoing a big renaissance as a college town. I know people have talked about how it's a good investment, etc, but I just want to talk about how cool it is becoming.

Its restaurant scene is better than ever with cool new taquerias, asian fusion restaurants, etc replacing old pizza by the slice spots.

It has the Milkboy Arthouse concert venue which opened in 2017. It features a mix of smaller time musical acts and internationally known artists with a more artsy/cultural vibe through a partnership through U Md's Clarice center.

From wikipedia: " The venue is the first in the United States to be a private-public performance space combined with the University of Maryland's Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center."

I don't live in College Park, but I just want to a show at Milkboy and felt like I needed to start this thread

What DC suburb can compete with College Park in terms of being as cool?

I live in Mount Rainier and love the Rt 1 Corridor, but even I think you need to chill. Are you an agent trying to drum up interest in CP? Sounds like it.

No, not an agent. Hope real estate agents don't even exist in 15 years as a profession

I just think it's the coolest DC suburb.

Some competitors:
Silver Spring - maybe could be considered cooler.... they have AFI silver, have the Fillmore venue, but are a little bit too cookie cutter to get 1st place
Bethesda - yeah, really nice, but not as "cool"
Clarendon - also has performing arts, bars, restaurants etc, but too douchey
Takoma Park - too crunchy, too old
anything farther out in Virginia than Arlington - no, just no

I agree. CP is really the only cool suburb.

Silver Spring is a weird mix between a dump and an outdoor outlet mall. Takoma Park is old and moldy, Bethesda is too commercial and just yuck, Clarendon used to be very cool but now is like millenial warehouse, Alexandria is too historic, Crystal City is underground, Rockville is a strip of big box stores with filled with soccer parents, Tysons is a mall on steroids...

It is all relative. Compared to the 1980’s it is cool. Otherwise, I would describe it as a dump.

I am saying it is cooler than any other DC suburb

What is nice about Bethesda? It feels like an office park.

And I am telling you I’m not going...

Downtown Bethesda has lots of really cool restaurants and shops and is very walkable. If you expand the definition to include North Bethesda then you get to include the Strathmore

Right, it is a cool place, so you do not need to be there. Wherever you are now, feel free to stay there.

Maryland people try so hard to feel good about themselves with their lame comparisons and never manage to pull it off.
