Good first episode. I wonder how the football player figures into it.

I want to know who Randall and Tess are going to see. At the end of last season, I assumed it was Beth or Deja but Randall calls old Toby so maybe it's Kate?

Also, how realistic was the 90% failure rate that was given to Kate for her IVF?

The failure rate is probably hard to measure because doctors won’t usually bend their rules like that to treat her. I am unfortunately in the same category as her and those conversations get all too familiar.

Re the football player, I just assumed the game winning play mirrored Jack’s storyline in the first episode. If you listen to the sports announcer’s voice in the background about the miraculous comeback of the Steelers, it’s similar to what happened on their first date. It was disastrous but Jack turned it around and saved it in the end. And we know the Pearsons love the Steelers so that was some good sports trivia to throw in. Perhaps there are more parallels but that’s the only one I noticed.

No. First of all, Beth's maiden name is Clark, not Harris. Second, Franco Harris was well-off enough that Beth's description of a house with parents, five kids, and cousins with one bathroom wouldn't hold up.

and MOREOVER - It's Franco Harris - even with This Is Us sleigh of hand, there is no way that the Steelers-crazed Pearsons wouldn't mention it ALL THE TIME. Especially every time they watch the games.
