2019 national merit semifinalists

Has anyone seen the list for DC?
Anonymous
No. Usually the Current publishes it. The WaPo never does.

I know Basis has 2 seniors who are semi-finalists.

Last year the Current published the list on Sept 20.

So probably next week's edition will have it.

There is any other Way to get the list without waiting for the Current to publish it?

No, unless you know a reporter who was sent the press release by the College Board.

The College Board releases info to schools (counselors log in to get it- and they are asked to share directly with students who were named semi-finalists).

The College Board sends to local media. They do not post it publicly. College Confidential has a whole thread of parents trying to ferret out the info.

Some school districts put out a news release (FCPS and MCPS did last week).

DCPS doesn't, and with so many of the finalists usually coming from the DC private schools it wouldn't be very useful if they did.

Nothing from DCPS yet?

Why DC is the only place where the papers won't publish the semi finalist list? You can find the list for any state but DC

Ask the Washington Post. I assume the NYTimes doesn’t publish the press release either.

That's the wrong year...

Unfortunately DC does not have a hometown newspaper.

NMS is done by state and is based on where the student goes to school, not where he lives. So in DC it tends to be dominated by private school kids who live in the suburbs.

Very frustrating. Called two times the NMSP corp and they refused to release any info to me. They said that they send the DC list to the Current and Patch but these papers will not publish it. In essence tough luck..
