How is the new principal doing at Murch?

Besides the art teacher of course.

somebody is desperately trying to keep this thread alive, even with nothing to say (see messages on July 6, 9, and the firsr of July 10).

look, the art teacher left, get over it. the school is fine. if you have evidence of teacher exodus, give it to us, otherwise leave us alone, thanks

I actually thought the person was asking IF there was more turnover. 09:21 you seem very defensive. And who is US?

Arent teachers being switched around from grade to grade?

Yes, but more than what the principal laid out in the spring?

Per Mr. C in June:

A K teacher is moving to 3rd so that there will be four sections in each grade (instead of 5 Ks and 3 3rds, as there were in 2011-12).
A 4th grade teacher is moving to 3rd to replace a teacher who is going to get her MBA.
A 1st grade teacher is moving to 4th (so there will be 4 sections of 1st instead of the 5 they had last year).

I believe that's it.

You seem to know a lot about the school. But that is not the whole truth. I know of two other staff members that are not coming back in the fall. The truth will come out once school starts. I would love to have the school be more transparent about these turnovers. I read in the Post that DCPS has the highest teacher turnover in the country.

I don't know any more than any other parent who reads the school website, reads Mr. C's e-mails, and listens to his voicemails. So I'm not claiming to offer the "truth"--just summarizing the information available to all.

Mr. C did allude to number of 2nd grades in his voicemail the other night, so maybe that's what you're referring to? Regardless, I'm not sure what he's supposed to do in terms of keeping people looped in on staff departures that happen during the summer. Not receiving constant updates on changes happen between mid-June and late August doesn't strike me as a lack of transparency.

On a happy note, I am excited that we're getting class assignments next week--that will be a HUGE improvement over previous years.

I don't get it. Two staffers are leaving? Um....ok. I would expect some turn over each year. Considering the 5th grade team has been there since the 1980s I am not sure what the departures may mean (or if I will even care).

I was surprised to get the phone call too. I have one going into 2nd so I will be interested how it all shakes out in that grade.

DC is very transient...teachers, like all people, leave jobs for a variety of reasons (leave of absence, moving to different area, family situation, PERSONAL reasons). Speculation and blaming the school climate or administration is a bit extreme. It seems like folks here are trying to find something wrong--and focusing on the negative, instead of supporting. I know many teachers were automatically terminated due to certification (OSSE does not "full around" with having a "highly qualified" status). Several teachers at my child's school were terminated for not fulfilling their certification obligations. This was automatic. Also, IMPACT will be coming out and some may be let go for performance issues. While parents want to know everything, I feel these issues are between the employee and the employer. How would you like your business posted on a website for all to view? Come on' man

did you mean 'fool around'?
thanks, it's nice to have someone familiar with downtown inner workings to come in these pages and answer our questions.
