He’s late to the party, and obviously hasn’t kept up with what the latest data is telling us about increased availability of weed. The news isn’t good.

For years I supported legalization.
But now we’ve seen the negative effects of increasing availability. Also the stuff available now is much stronger than the stuff I remember from the 90s.

The last thing this young generation needs is more of a substance that is making people less productive and successful. Then again, that seems to be par for the course for this administration.

+1. Newer studies have shown a connection with mental illness later in life.

Yep. Especially worrisome with the newer, stronger strains. We are just beginning to see the effects. Things will get worse as more people use greater amounts of stronger strains. This is just the beginning.

It’s a tough call for me since OTOH I hate to see people’s lives be ruined by going to prison for it. But maybe instead of legalization we should focus on improving outcomes and providing more support for people coming out of prison for nonviolent offenses.

You don’t know anything about cannabis, obviously. Stronger only means you smoke less for the same effect. That’s a good thing. You can only get so high. There is a ceiling. New strains do not get you “more high”. This is common knowledge. You are seriously uninformed.

Stronger strains will increase the amount of THC consumed on average which will create more neurological adaptation. Using weed increases the level of GABA and in the long-term this will cause problems because the brain decreases the number of GABA receptors to maintain equilibrium. There are cascading effects of neurological dysfunction that accumulate by messing with the GABA neurochemical system.

You’re using too many big words and facts. That won’t go over well with the pro-marijuana crowd/liberals.

Democrats want more drugged dummies.

This is a flat out lie. Citations or stfu.
did you actually read the research article about schizophrenia in detail. This pathway is mentioned in the citation of this article.

I don’t really care if marijuana is legal or not. The people that insist that it is not bad for your health irritate me though. They are misinformed or ignoring reality.

Yes, exactly. Being a drugged out loser is bad for your health, period. Plus nobody in their right mind wants to be a stoner’s boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, child, or employer.

you all realize there are medicinal and other uses for THC which are, or should be perfectly legitimate that doesn't make someone a burnout or loser, right?

Reclassifying it will allow for more research. Right now it is virtually impossible to study it. It will also allow for getting people out of jail for weed convictions.

Well that is where we started, medical marijuana to treat wartime PTSD and cancer patients, right? But that was just the camel’s nose being let into the tent to get us into full legalized recreational weed, i.e. loserville.

Yes. But you know what the research did NOT say? “Stronger strains will increase the amount of THC consumed on average” which is what I was replying about.

It’s so nice to finally be free to live my own life without jerks like you threatening my health and safety! You know who the objective losers really are? You, the minority that LOST the referendum to keep cannabis illegal. Keep whining about it!

The real losers are the ones who lost tens of billions investing in cannabis stocks. Also: the people sitting around getting high every day.

This thread really shows how out of touch our right wing trolls are. Marijuana legalization passed in Missouri (Missouri!) by 53%. It’s supported by over 70% of voters. Keep on insulting us guys! That’ll win some votes!!

Are you the “for years I supported legalization?” Or a DP?

In this country we allow people to consume a large number of things that are not good for them, or worse, can harm them. So we either start the conversation with a comparison to those things (tobacco, alcohol) or we admit we are improperly singling out marijuana as a Schedule I substance.

My understanding is that this will go through the regulatory process and they are looking to downgrade marijuana to a Schedule II or III substance. Removing it from the schedule requires Congress to act.

As for stronger strains, the government will have significantly more oversight on marijuana productions and sales if they removed it from Schedule I.
