Carnivore diet

OP here. What I think people misunderstand is that I’m not really eating more meat than I was before. I’m just cutting out the carbs. So instead of having eggs with toast, I’m just having eggs. Instead of having tacos with the tortilla, I’m eating the taco meat and leaving the shell. This creates my caloric deficit (and also has metabolic benefits of reducing hunger). So it’s not what some people picture - you may be eating more meat than I am!

I eat fruit though (low fodmap fruit) and veggies (low fodmap veggies). I keep my meats to mostly dark meat (turkey, chicken and also fish). Eat nuts. Feel much better. Took a urine test for other reasons and noticed some ketones in my urine (also some crystals ugh hope not getting kidney stones from this!!)

You almost certainly are. I had a ton after eating very low carb. Enjoy the urologist visits! And if you’re not already I’d be drinking at least 80 ounces of water a day.

Do you not eat any fruit or veg whatsoever ? What about something fatty like avocado?

I really want to understand this diet to try it myself . I just can’t wrap myself around the no fruit or veg part.

I had a few bites of guacamole the other day. I also eat salsa as a topping. Basically, I’ll use non-sugary fruit and veg as a garnish or sauce, but not really on their own.

So did u need to add grains back? I’m going for another urine test in a week or so for unrelated reasons and am curious. Drinking lots of decaf tea. Trying to cut back on the nuts but frankly peanut butter is the main food I’m excited about.

+1

I'm not a lion.

Humans in general are bad for the planet. So is almond milk. Increased meat focused diets are so rare it’s a rounding error.

I don’t even think people that are on carnivore diets are eating meat as often as high carb eaters . Usually, they pair it with intermittent fasting from my research as meat (esp organ meats like liver) is highly satiating . I’d wager the high carb eaters are eating meat more frequently and more often.

Even if that's true, which is not, but I'll humor you, carinove diet does not provide for enough fiber, vitamins or minerals from the varied diet. How do you reconcile that?

I don't have the patience nor the interest to watch some YouTube quack. What is it you wanted to say?

It's a 40 second video......

I don't care how often you poop. You are not getting the essential nutrients or fiber from other food groups.
I'll give you fiber, but can you name a single nutrient you can't get in a reasonable quantity via a carnivore diet?

DP.

Vitamin C? That’s not in meat or dairy .

Antioxidants like flavonoids are only found in plants.

vitamin C is present in significant amounts in spleen

I think they mean only use honey for sweetness

Also, while flavonols aren't in meat, other antioxidants like Astaxanthin and carnosine are.

I recommend replacing one meal a day with dog kibble. It’s balanced food and fairly filling

What an asinine idea. Eat a well-balanced diet rich in all whole foods. Stop with these ridiculous fads.

I love vegetables, I can't imagine not eating them.

Exactly! Why would anyone give that up knowing how hugely beneficial they are to our health?

This diet is a horrible fad.

What are the long term consequences of eating a carnivore only diet?

First thing, I have been able to fully reverse type 2 diabetes without drugs and lost 60 pounds in the last two years. My skin, hormones, and muscle tone have greatly improved as well despite being almost 50. I get regular periods and no more menopausal symptoms. Fatty meat is the basis of hormonal health.

My husband has reversed his Hashimoto’s and is also no longer on any prescription drugs. He has mostly been thin and active since we have been together (30 years) but was getting skinny fat on a plant based diet. He is now muscle-y and looks amazing. Younger, more confident and a wow in bed!

Over the past two years we have given up alcohol as it’s no longer something we crave. We supplement with vitamin d (in the winter as we get plenty of sun otherwise), magnesium, and iodine (for hormonal and adrenal support).

Our two teens still at home love this way of eating and have been making huge strides in athletics while maintaining all A’s in school. They also work part time jobs and have great skin and hair. They know they will feel crappy when they eat standard American crap food with their friends. They have to experience that and learn on their own. Our two kids in college were skeptical but both have come around after seeing our results and are trying to stay cleaner with their diets and be more animal based.

I understand (especially as a former vegan) that this seems strange. Don’t knock it til you try it. We did this initially as a two week experiment and it’s been amazing.

We get most of our meat from a local rancher and get our eggs and raw milk and cream from a local farm. We are lucky that despite living in a major metropolitan area, we have been able to source this. We also shop at Costco for some extra meats, cheeses, sparkling water, and snacks(Chomps).

This is affordable, we are regular and our trashcan is practically empty every week as we generate hardly any trash now.

This is so profoundly overly dramatic it can't possibly be true. All A's, perfect skin, superior athletes, great in bed... You sound ridiculous.
