Noise complaints can be racist. Particularly when discussing the intersection where Florida Avenue and Georgia Avenue meet. That shop on the corner has always played loud vibrant GoGo music since the 90s. It's part of the charm. There is no reason to cite people for exercising their first amendment rights. |
It is surprising to me how often people cite their "First Amendment rights" as protecting a behavior that is really just kind of selfishness (e.g. I want to do something that is very loud, and I do not care if it bothers other people). I also dislike it when motorcyclists with very loud Harley engines come driving down the street late at night. Do you believe that they have a "First Amendment right" to do this? I just believe that they are rude and selfish to impose their noise on the rest of us. Decibel level limits are reasonable -- they protect all people. |
Or just take them and throw them away. Abandonded trash. |
Or, just go get the abandoned trash and dispose of it. |
Like falsely yelling fire in a theater, activity that is harmful to others or poses a threat to others is not protected. Damaging the hearing of nearby residents, particularly infants and small children, is not protected activity. |
Time, place, and manner restrictions have always been part of first amendment jurisprudence. Noise regulations exist for a reason, particularly in dense urban environments where multiple competing interests need to be balanced, and the taxpaying class needs to be able think, sleep, etc., within their own homes. No one is trying to restrict the playing of music outside, period, the issue is time and volume. |
+1. That no one in the neighborhood has done this is insane. The MPD is refusing to enforce the law about noise? OK. Why do you think they're going to enforce the law against you if you throw these out? That would look terrible for the city. Not everything has to be about lawyers. |
Because when you have progressive criminal prosecutors wanting to create an "equitable" justice system they will absolutely arrest someone considered "privileged" who violated the law. Also, residents have a lot to lose by engaging these protestors as they have threatened and assaulted people who are Jewish or appear to support Israel. |
Look at the people who want the enforcement Look at the area where they want enforcement. Look at the people they want targeted. #naivenomore |
Has DOB/DCLP been out to take readings? Because from the link, it looks like they are the first step. |
You want to tell us what you're insinuating, Comrade? |
If you hear noise, call MPD to complain 202-715-7300. Call the mayor’s office and Matt Frumin’s office too 202-724-8062 |
The people that live near the noise want to target the people making the noise. Not everything has to be some nutty conspiracy. THEY aren’t always out to get you. |
That law says that First Amendment protests are exempted from noise control between the hours of 9pm and 7am, with no limited on decibel level, even as measured from inside residentially zoned buildings. Comparing to the wording of street drummers exemption in the next paragraph, it really reads to me as the author of the document (not sure if it matches the law) is illiterate. |
Seems more racist to claim that only one race disregards the law. |
