It’s too hot for me, but I can’t really think of another reason not to like it. |
I love hot weather. I love the beach. I love the more relaxed vibe and pace of life. I like how vibrant and alive everything is there—so much wildlife and flowers and plants and beautiful natural areas.
I hate the politics, the traffic, and the hurricanes/sink holes so I’d never actually want to live there…but I love to visit. |
If you actually think this is true for the entire state of 22.2 million people including 4.5 million kids (0-18) and thousands of public schools, you are very misinformed. |
Don’t you sound miserable! Wow… |
OP, you sound like the type of person who also wouldn’t get the appeal of babies, ice cream, or hugs |
US News and World report recently rated Florida #1 in America for both education and the economy. |
You actually have to look at the whole picture. https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/opinion/columns/2024/05/15/florida-schools-education-pay/73670666007/ |
I live here. I don't recognize so much of what I read about Florida. It's gorgeous weather much of the year, amazing flora and fauna, schools are how they are everywhere: some great, some awful, and most somewhere in between. People are nice but not fake (if you avoid the annoying rich areas), and come from all over the world, have all sorts of perspectives. Hurricanes are awful, yes, and I'll be happy when DeSantis is done in 2026, but there is a lot to enjoy and appreciate about the state. I will miss many things if I move. |
The only thing good about FL are the beaches, but with all that sargassum seaweed in the summer, what's the point of the beaches, especially when it's hot as hell outside.
I went to FL in July. Worst vacation ever. I could not imagine living there in the summer. |
Have you ever visited, especially in the winter? I’m confused how one wouldn't understand the appeal. |
Yea, this is one of those cases where you need to read the fine print:
Not the worst, but not the best numbers. |
Winter is only like 3 months. I'd rather deal with the DC area winters for 3 months than the hellish 3 month summer weather in FL. |
Actually the balmy season in FL is from about October to May so about six months. May through September it's pretty hot. Unlike you I'll take that over the cold, wind, ice, snow, dead foliage, grey skies, depressing winter in the DC area which typically lasts from November through March which is more like five months. |
I guess you don't mind the stinky sargassum seaweed in the summer. Also, I lived in CA for 40 years, so I know what nice weather is like year round. I still would rather deal with DC winters than FL summers. It doesn't really get that cold in DC until January, and then that lasts usually until early April. |
