The aircraft normally designated “Air Force Two” carried John McCain and his family to Washington, D.C. on the late senator's final flight across the country. It was something of a surprise to many onlookers, then, to learn afterwards that McCain’s body had been flown to Washington on a U.S. government Boeing C-32A typically reserved for the use of the vice president or first lady — an act which would require the approval of the President himself. |
| It's a plane owned by the US government. Trump didn't approve anything. |
| Whoever approved it did the right thing. |
|
This suprised me. The McCain family is wealthy and didn’t need the use of AF2. I wonder if they requested it, or the Administration offered it? Trump approved it.
You’d think they’d at least thank him, but they seem very entitled. |
No, you are wrong. Snopes stated in their fact check the President must approve the use of AF2 for anyone other than the VP or FLOTUS. Do you have a citation to prove your lie? |

Trump Rises Above McCain Backlash to Lend the Senator's Family Air Force Two to Travel to DC
https://ijr.com/2018/09/1120733-trump-mccain-air-force-two/ President Donald Trump quietly lent Air Force Two to the family of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for their travel to Washington, D.C., despite a week of backlash for his contentious relationship with the late senator. According to a report from TMZ, the president personally signed off on the flight, allowing McCain's family to be transported using Air Force Two — a jet usually reserved for Vice President Mike Pence or first lady Melania Trump. |

“At the request of the McCain family, I have also authorized military transportation of Senator McCain's remains from Arizona to Washington, D.C., military pallbearers and band support, and a horse and caisson transport during the service at the United States Naval Academy,” Trump stated.
According to Arizona Central, Air Force Two has been used to transport other deceased war heroes in the past, including United States Marine and Central Intelligence Agency Operations Officer Johnny Michael Spann, who was the first American to be killed in combat in Afghanistan. The president authorized the plane's usage to take McCain's casket and his family from Phoenix to Washington, D.C., for the senator to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday. Your open disdain, hypocrisy, and hostility towards a veteran surprises me. |
“Air Force 2” is a air traffic control code word, not an aircraft. If Mike Pence sits his sweet ass in a Piper Cub, that becomes “Air Force 2.” McCain did fly back on a government aircraft, but at no point was it ever Air Force 2. |
Snopes and Arizona Central are wrong? John McCain's body and family will be flown out of Phoenix on Thursday afternoon on a plane usually reserved for the vice president and first lady. The plane, most commonly recognized when it is serving as Air Force Two, is a Boeing C-32A. It is the military version of the well-known Boeing 757. The 89th Airlift Wing, based out of Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, is responsible for the aircraft as well as Air Force One. McCain's body will be flown to the base, according to a representative of the airlift wing. RELATED: McCain updates: 15,000 turn out in Phoenix to pay respects The United States has been using a fleet of eight C-32s since 1998. (This year, the administration of President Donald Trump included $6 million in the federal budget to study replacements for the aircraft.) This specific plane has carried the body of a significant figure at least once before, according to the Air Force. In 2001, this plane transported the body of United States Marine and Central Intelligence Agency Operations Officer Johnny Michael Spann. He was the first American killed in combat during the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. The C-32A is different from a standard 757 in a few key ways. For example, the second section of the plane is a fully enclosed stateroom that includes a changing area, private bathroom, separate entertainment system and seats that can fold into a bed. RELATED: McCain family greets people in line paying respects Another section of the plane also has its own conference area as well as areas for staff. The cabin is divided intofour sections, with the rear of the aircraft containing the majority of the seating. Any of the C-32s can function as Air Force Two, a designation used when carrying the vice president. Occasionally, a C-32 will even be used as Air Force One, when flying to a location where the normal aircraft used by the president — a larger Boeing 747 — can't fit. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/arizona/2018/08/30/john-mccains-body-flown-air-force-two-c-32/1140329002/ |
| He only did it so he wouldn't be tarred and feathered! |
No, you are wrong. John McCain never returned on Air Force 2. Its a code word, numb nuts. |
The plane is owned by the U.S. It's use for something other than the VP did have to be approved. People are just surprised when Trump's respect for social norms is slightly above floor level. |
You better email Snopes, AZ Central, etc, and correct them.

The flag-draped coffin holding McCain's body was flown to Washington, D.C., aboard Air Force Two, the plane reserved for the vice president. On Friday, he was honored by House and Senate members from both sides of the political aisle as he laid in state in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol Building. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/john-mccain-buried-best-friend-decades-public-service/story?id=57558580 |
