Isn't there a KIPP school somewhere in Maryland?

In Baltimore. There are no charter schools in Montgomery County.

There are 42 charter schools in Maryland, with a few more hoping to open next year. There are 2 in Anne Arundel, 1 in Baltimore County, 1 in Frederick, 4 in Prince George's, 1 in St. Mary's, and 33 in Baltimore City. There are no charter schools in Montgomery County right now. For more information, go to the Maryland Charter School Network at http://www.mdcharternetwork.org/index.html

OP are you planning to start with K-8, or with fewer grades but adding each year?
Anonymous
Ideally we would like to start K-8, but may have to start K-6 and add 7 and 8 in successive years.

This doesn't sound like a place for people with special needs, developmental disabilities. What about that population?

I was thinking the same thing, and note the silence of the OP now
It is my understanding that in order for charters to receive funding, they are OBLIGATED to accept students in the service area with special needs, and have to accommodate them. This Global Garden school sounds like a good idea, but I hope that they've considered this...

I'm not the OP, but... why couldn't this school serve the needs of kids with special needs the same way regular schools do?

Perhaps they could, but would need to understand that 'special needs' is a blanket term. It's more than kids with a some learning issues or ADHD. There is ASD, SID, language disorders, physical challenged kids...They will need to add this to their mission.

The application requires a prospective charter school to demonstrate how they will address the needs of special learners and English-language learners. So it's in there.

Agreed....and what about gifted children too? They have special needs too albeit in a different way.
