Adrenaline v. Strictly Rhythm Dance Studios

Anonymous
Does anyone have any feedback on Adrenaline Dance Studio (in Tysons) as compared to Strictly Rhythm Dance (in Springfield) regarding competitive dance? I went on the Adrenaline website and it looks pretty impressive with the awards and levels they're competing, but there's not a lot of feedback out there since it's only been around since 2014. Strictly Rhythm seems to have an excellent reputation and potentially scores higher (i can't tell TBH since the competitions being referenced seem different) and would be a great option. Adrenaline is closer, probably 10-15 minutes closer with decent traffic. Welcome any comments on both schools and any experiences your DCs have had with both schools. Also would welcome feedback on how each school's technical/technique programs. TIA!!

Bump - I’m looking for feedback on Adrenaline’s Hip Hop or tumbling classes.

Also, any experience with Velocity in Vienna and how they compare?

Velocity and Adrenaline seem to be comparable and attend similar (and sometimes the same) competitions. Adrenaline choreography seems to be better but Velocity seems to have a leg up on technique. I’m not a professional though. This is just one parent’s opinion. Never heard of Strictly Rhythm.

I've never heard of Strictly Rhythm either.

My DD did a dance camp at Adrenaline this summer and liked it. She went with a friend who is on a dancing pom pom team there. And there are a couple of boys from DD's school that are on a hip hop team at Adrenaline also. The teachers they had all week at camp were a lot of fun and it had a nice feel to the studio.

Strictly rhythm is know nationally, it’s supposed to excellent. I’ve never heard of the others, but DD doesn’t do competition dance, so I’m no expert.

Adrenaline has a relationship with the Vienna elem schools and community center. They have an after school Hip Hop program at most of the schools one day per week. They have a summer hip hop and Tumbling camps at the Vienna Community center too.

My daughter took a tumbling and cheer class there and I met a lot of the competitive moms, who ended up turning me off to that. A few even traveled from Ashburn area and some of the kids go right after school and stay there for hours! It just seemed so intense, but that may be the I petite dance culture everywhere. I do know they traveled a lot and won a lot. They have videos on YouTube you can watch.

The owner was nice and the workers were young and talented. My kid loved the classes she took. But lost interest after a year.

You can take trial classes and they let you pay per class or month to month until you’re comfortable. Also, dance is tryouts so maybe you tryout at both companies and see the culture.

^^ same PP. Clarifying that my daughter took the class at the Tyson’s studio. They used to have a small studio but bought another larger area in the same complex. Not sure if thy still have both or moved completely to the larger one. I didn’t like that the kids walked back and forth... think warehouse type location with a 24 hour “massage parlor” and CrossFit space between the two.

Strictly Rhythm is very highly regarded on a national level and is consistently considered one of the top 5 or so competitive dance studios in the country.

SR is a very well regarded dance studio with an established history of excellence.

Thanks, everyone. I’m the 2nd poster that asked about Adrenaline and Velocity. We live between both and we will likely try out Adrenaline this fall. My child wants to do this only for fun and I don’t see serious competition in her future. Month to month sounds great.

Unrelated to dance, but maybe they should pay some attention to their (non-existent) website.

Has strictly rhythm closed? Where did the teachers move to?

Be careful about the "just for fun" angle at Adrenaline. The classes are just fine. But buyer beware if they encourage your young child to go out for a competitive team with "no experience necessary" the just for fun thing will evaporate overnight. They seem to have a new coaching philosophy that emphasizes the win over everything. It can be a dangerous mindset with the littles. IMO the staff could use a refresher course from SafeSport to ensure they aren't crossing a dangerous line into harassment and verbal abuse to achieve this with their teams. Giving owners benefit of the doubt I think their hearts are in the right place but a closer eye on this would be good for the organization.

That’s terrible. Have you said anything to the owners? If not, I hope they see this.

We are in the same boat. Looking to check out velocity first - I don't want someone borderline harassing/abusing my kid.
