Three-year-old is really creeping me out.

My three-year-old has always been more imaginative than her peers. She’s very verbal and would happily spend 2 hours playing with her dollhouse or hearing a story over going the the park and running around. She’s very funny, but a bit peculiar.

Lately she’s been talking about the “rusty man.” The story has stayed the same for the past few days. He lives in her closet and comes out at night while she’s sleeping. She has to keep her arms and legs under the covers or (in her words), “he will bite my foot, and then my blood into rust and I’ll die.”

She’s never had any screen time that I know of (and is she has, it was probably 10-15 minutes do Blues Clues.

She is read to a lot, but we don’t have any books that have anything to do with a rusty man or anything remotely frightening.

I brought it up to all the people she’s in contact with and they have no clue where she got it from. Our nanny mentioned DD had told her about him during nap time and royally creeped her out.

I’m creeped out too. She’s doesn’t seem frightened about it, just matter of fact.

I told her there is no rusty man, and we discussed make-believe versus reality.

“Oh mommy, I know he’s make-believe in the day, but at night he’s real.”

Chills.

I’m guessing she just had a vivid nightmare? Totally creeped out.

When I was 3, I had recurring dreams about a "dark man" (I still remember them). They used to say that when you had recurring dreams, then the dreams were real. I was terrified of the dark man for years and years.

So...have you checked the closet yet?

Video in her room at night!

That is actually really creepy. Kinda cool, though. You should record her telling a story about it so you have it later.

eeeeeeeeek!!!

Please excuse my woo woo, but I do believe that children are closer to the spirit world than we are. What does the rusty man want?

Who used to say recurring dreams were real?

This reminds me of the Stephen King's movie, Cat's eye.

Depending on what you believe maybe your child is seeing spirits/something at night, and part is real and part imaginative? I believe that some have this "gift," but to us adults it sounds like pure nonsense. Kids seeing "things" isn't as crazy as you think and I think it probably has to do with kids being more open, whereas adults we shut ourselves off to it so we can't see things.

OP- she's intelligent and imaginative - this was the height of my DS's imaginary friends and play. He used to dress up in Disney dresses, full purse, wig, and strings of beads and sashay around his Catholic preschool- I got a huge kick out of it. At home he insisted that we call him "Pam."

A three year old talking about The Rusty Man is creepy and weirdly cool.

Get all sorts of blessings on the home. And specifically mention the closet....

We had a blessing placed on our home, and I was paranoid about each and every closet / back patio etc being included. Because we had a blessing on a previous home, and didn’t mention this little concrete patio. I kept feeling like a spirit was staring in watching us from it. We did it again, and I immediately felt like it left.

Ours “sees” ghosts and monsters, and wants me to let them drive our car. They also live in our basement, she requests I feed them.

Since my dd was 18mo she has pointed to a corner in her room and said there was a witch. She’s two now and the witch wants to poke her in the belly with her finger and drain the blood. I honestly think she sees a shadow and she’s seen something on tv somewhere probably when she was younger. (Like we may have watched GOT in front of her when she was 15mo)

Also she talks about being an old woman.
