1 week old sleeping 4 hours at night?

He has done this a few times. Ped says she is fine with it but I am still unsure if I should let him go that long without nursing. He is EBF and not back up to his birth weight yet. He is 8 days old. We went to the doctor yesterday at 7 days old. He was 9lb 5oz at birth and 8lb 10oz yesterday. He typically eats every 1-2 hours during the day.

Let him sleep!

It’s fine. The only reason I might wake him is because I’d be uncomfortable and possibly start to leak. The goal is feed at least 20 min of continuous sucking 8 times in a 24 hour period. Go midnight to midnight and keep track. Between feeding every 1-2 hours and sometimes 4 hours, my guess is that you’re hitting that goal of 8 times.

My first was an incredible sleeper from the beginning. She would have slept 4-6 hours immediately I’m sure. The doctor advised us to wake her to feed until she reached her birthweight again though (maybe because she went from about 8 lbs to 7 lbs after a couple of days). But once she regained to her birthweight after about 10 days, the doctor said let her sleep. She immediately started sleeping 6 hours a night. It was alarming to me but she gained well and did great. She is now almost 6.

Sounds great as long as there's weight gain. My 8 day old only wakes once per night (4am). He's 9.5lbs and eats voraciously during the day.

It's in the range of normal.

And don't be surprised if it's short lived. It might not change, but a lot of times these are just short lived flukes.

It sounds like he’s doing great! Because he’s big he can probably take more in one sitting than other babies his age, and as long as he’s not lethargic and has enough wet/poopy diapers he’s probably perfect.
