Chevy Traverse vs Buick Enclave vs GMC Acadia vs Honda Pilot vs 4WD Mini Van

Anonymous
I need to upgrade my Honda CRV to something with 3 rows. Kids are getting big, friends are getting big, need a little more room. I'm open to any options that have all wheel drive, three rows and captain seats as an option for the second row. Any feedback would be appreciated!!!!Thank you

Why do you need AWD? There is almost no terrain in this region that requires it and we get weather that necessitates it maybe every 3-4 years.

We might be moving back to New England in the next few years

I just got the new Traverse. I really like it.

The Acadia was redesigned and now is smaller than the Traverse. There really was no trunk space with the 3rd row up.

The Enclave was nice but I just couldn't figure out how to change gears. I'm sure in time I would have figured it out but it's a cross between an automatic and a stick. I didn't love the car enough to want to figure it out.

The Pilot was nice but didn't have an option of a power third row. That meant that I would have to crawl into the car in order to pull up the 3rd row. Most days I wear a dress and heels so this was a deal breaker for me.

I just didn't want a mini van so I didn't look at them.

Love, love my Ford Explorer with captains chairs in second row. Try it

You might want to consider the Toyota Highlander and the Subaru Ascent. The Subaru is a new model. I think You can order one, but I am not sure when it will be available. The Subaru is the one I would want if we needed 3 rows because our Outback has been so good. I am not sure if the Highlander is AWD and I don`t know if the 3rd row is big enough.

Of the ones you mentioned I would get the Honda Pilot. We know several people that love theirs.

Um... the enclave is an automatic transmission. No gear changing necessary.

Yeah the newer Pilots look nice, might have to wait a year to get them within budget. I haven't looked into the subaru I will thanks.

Also PP thanks I will look into the Ford Explorer....not sure why it didn't come up in my carman search as an option

Yes, it's an automatic. But there's something different about how you put it into park and drive. If I remember correctly, you had to move the gear shift over and up or over and down while engaging a button. The sales person said it was a European type automatic shifter. In any case, it didn't work for me. I can drive an automatic. I can drive a stick. I'm too old to learn how to drive some other mechanism. Maybe if I really loved the rest of the car, but I didn't.

PP with the Traverse. I traded in my Explorer. My kids are 10 and 7 now. It was getting kind of tight back there with laptops and backpacks. That said, I had an Explorer for 20 years before getting the Traverse. I'll probably go back to it once the kids are gone. I've always loved the Explorer.

Yup, I had a 2011 Acadia, loved it and wanted to get another one, but didn’t like the redesign. So a found a 2016 Acadia with 15K miles for 2/3 of the price of a new one.

I have had a lot of bad mechanical issues w/the Ford brand@ so by nature have ruled them out entirely.

Just my opinion.

If you do any kind of mountain driving you don't just leave your car in Drive--you downshift as needed. But if you never leave DC, not a problem that you don't know how cars work.

We moved to DC area from the south, so none of our car is AWD. We were stuck for few days every single winter here and finally traded one car for AWD. You cant drive in snow here without AWD.
