Acid Reflux - How soon does it go away after delivery

Anonymous
I’m so miserable 36 weeks with constant reflux. Nothing works to cure. How soon will this go away after delivery?

Have you tried Zantac? I took 150mg of Zantac everyday from about 30 weeks on and it really worked for me (if I took it first thing in the morning and didn't forget)

For me it went away immediately after delivery.

Agree with PP. I wish I would have tried something stronger than Tums because I was miserable with the constant heartburn and reflux during my pregnancy. I would definitely look into that if you can.

That said, the heartburn/reflux went away immediately after giving birth.

Immediately and I was on a PPI and modified diet because it developed into by 20 weeks GERD.

It was a few days for me. I had awful heartburn while I was in labor, and they gave me some magic liquid antacid. If tasted horrible but worked better than anything. It was a one time deal though. After that, they doled our tums on a schedule. It sucked.

I had awful heartburn with both pregnancies. I had to take Pepcid every 8 hours or it would set in and take more than a day to get back under control. I brought me to to tears many times.

I had total relief in less than 24 hours after each delivery.

That happened to me too. I had a 30 hour labor and no pain meds and I cried more about my antacids being late and the Streo B+ IV burning in my hand than my damn contractions. My second labor I brought my own Pepcid and tums with me. I popped a Pepcid on the way to the hospital just in case and luckily my labor was super fast.

Disappeared immediately. I was popping Tums during labor but once it was over I’ve had no issues. Yay!!!

I had a csection, and literally as they pulled the baby out i felt the heart burn melt away. It was the best part about delivery (after getting a baby). That said, I think I'm a little more sensitive to it now, even 2 years later, than I was before I got pregnant.

Try prilosec--they put me on that last time in my 3rd trimester when I had The Worst Heartburn.

For me, immediately.

I had horrible heartburn and reflux that actually eased up a bit about a week before DD was born...corresponding to when she dropped down a bit lower in my belly. It went away completely within hours of her birth.

Oddly enough, I get the occasional reflux now, 2 years out. I never once had reflux before I was pregnant.

Immediately. Another Pepcid every 8 hours mom here. I’m sure there were some endorphins involved, but it felt like I got immediate relief the second the baby left my body.

I also had HG and the sickness left me immediately after giving birth as well. I always thought it was weird how fast I felt better. IT was so immediate.

All my pregnancy issues left me as soon as he baby pooped out including heartburn. That said I was able to get to of mine with prescription medication in the morning, Zantac at night, modified diet and tums. Gerd isn’t just annoying or can be hard up to your health.

PP with GERD - mine was diagnosed by my asthma doctor because of esophageal damage (healed up after birth). I was on a bland diet and still had issues.

Exact same for me. Twice.
