I have met a handful of moms in Florida who homeschool. I know for a fact they did not attend college. Their grammar is awful. I know I am not perfect myself but that's why I plan on sending my children to public or private school. Why do they homeschool? It seems so backwards. In my home country home schooling is not legal. We would see it as backwards. |
I often wonder this. |
Why do people do half the sh-t they do?! |
Yes. My HS friend who cheated off me in Algebra homeschools her FIVE kids. sheesh. |
Stupid people have no business home schooling. It shouldn't be legal. |
Usually they homeschool because they have so many kids that they can't get them to school. They also have enough kids to make their own class. |
The kids may have learning/behavioral issues that mean that they can't learn effectively (and/or the other kids can't learn effectively) when they're in a regular classroom environment.
Or maybe she outsources some of the more academic subjects. There are plenty of co-ops and prepared curriculums for different subjects these days. |
Well just for some balance and perspective, I have seen educated mothers homeschool as well. My sister homeschools her kids and went to McGill University in Montreal and is extremely smart and fluent in four languages. She is part of a homeschooling community comprised of very accomplished people. Do mothers without a higher ed pucation homeschool their kids? Yes it happens. But I don't think it should be allowed. I believe a parent should have at a minimum a Bachelor degree. |
My friend in Florida with a Masters degree homeschools. She also loves guns and hates gay people and "foreigners." She can teach correct spelling, though... |
I observed the opposite - my classically-educated aunt home-schooled her son and when he went to high school, he was the top student in everything. I have an acquaintance who is intimidating in her command of multiple subjects, who home-schooled all her children. Her daughter made a speech last year at Strathmore, to accompany an event she was participating in, and it was an expressive, mature, wonderfully articulate speech. |
It may because the local school is not highly rated and they don't want their kids hang out with wrong crowds. Or it may be those parents enjoy being with children and teaching them. |
When you're uneducated you don't know what you don't know and you think you know all you and your kids need to know. |
This is not relevant to OP's question. Stay on the topic. |
