Emergency meeting scheduled for tonight to vote on whether to initiative charter revocation process

Anyone know why? They are Tier 2, and their score improved in 16-17 compared to their 15-16 results.

Surprising there aren't meeting materials online. They have a pending application for a location move too (over by the RI metro)

Wild guess, seriously I know nothing about it but this is a public board, so guessing is fair game: Given where their campus sits, guessing many students are MD residents.

That's a pretty damning report.

Agree.

As an aside, I never understand why more people don't seem to use them or discuss them when considering a charter school. I wish DCPS produced something similar.

They are up for their 20 year review next Monday's mtg

So it's just perfunctory?

My guess is the renewal may be heading towards a denial so this is either a meeting to begin closure procedures, or one to give a notice of concern

The timing really sucks for the kids who were planning to stay there and may not have entered the lottery. Wonder if another school will try to take it over, or if it will just close?

Next week they were on the PCSB docket for a location move.

They wanted to sell their current building, and anticipated they would net +$3 million.

They said they would lease the new location, and the extra income would help their cash flow. They also thought that the new location would help them attract more students.

My hunch is that this is about finances more than academics.

One of my coworkers who is a long time MD resident told me her ds went to the school. Half of these charters wouldn't exist if they didn't turn a blind eye to residency fraud.

I don't think they're well publicized whatsoever. I only discovered them after having applied to PK3 lottery and wished I had seen them earlier. And I did a lot of research. The pdf with all the data comes up a lot (Tier and Parcc sheets) but I only found our about QSR buried in these boards. And I did a LOT of research!

I just don't understand why someone goes to the trouble to set up a school to run it so poorly. Baffling.

I agree. My kid's school (BASIS) told parents about it and shared the link to the report (which was strong) but that was the first I learned of them. And I've had kids in a charter since 2004.
