Inova Alexandria?

Hello, wondering if anyone has feedback about the Alexandria hospital Inova for delivery? I am a first time mom in Alexandria and wondering which hospital is best. Thanks!

I don't know about labor and delivery, but I know they have an excellent NICU if the baby needs any help.

Alexandria Inova was a great place to deliver - private labor and delivery rooms, private recovery/maternity rooms. Very friendly nurses. And, a NICU, with fabulous staff (my son spent a week there).

I delivered there three years ago and was very happy overall. The only downer was the first nurse I had but even she was fine by the time my baby was born. Let me know if you want more details.

I delivered in Inova Alexandria in Feb 07 and found the staff in Labor & Delivery to be great.

had two children there and LOVED it. Small hospital, private rooms, friendly staff.

The only complaint I had there was the food! By the time I was out of L&D and in my room the kitchen/caf was closed and they gave me this boxed lunch with a horrible sandwich in it--make sure your husband or other family members know where to get good take out in the area! Or pack something in advance!

there is a Chinese Food place if you make a left out of the hospital onto Seminary, towads 395 and a shopping center with Panera, Baja, Z Pizza and something else right off of Duke street-5/10 minutes away. The bagels in the cafeteria are actually pretty good.

My SIL just delivered there this week.

She had fabulous care - loved her nurses - and yes the food is horrible.

It is a new hospital policy to encourage Moms to leave after 1 night. Make sure you are aware of this and that you are not leaving until you are ready to leave. Most insurrance will pay for 2 nights with a non-complicated vaginal delivery.

It is my understanding that the hospital is encouraging this b/c of profitability. They make a lot of $ on the delivery - but not a lot on you being there for additional days.

Best of luck with your decision

Or, maybe they are encouraging it because many moms prefer to go home as quickly as possible (within reason, of course). I've had friends who wanted to check out the day after delivery, and they were told that their insurance companies wouldn't pay at all, because they were leaving "against medical advice". They were required to stay the full two days, even though they had totally uncomplicated deliveries and wanted to get home to other children. So, I think this is a good policy. I'm sure for anyone who has any complications at all, they'd be allowed to stay longer.

That's interesting - I delivered there last month and didn't feel pressured to leave after one night. Maybe b/c baby needed to stay a "full" two days. However, I did hear from the peds floor (when we were later re-admitted, ironic) that they ask experienced moms to leave quickly at FAIRFAX, d/t space constraints. This is in contrast to my experience at Arlington Hosp three years ago, when they let me stay on as a boarder (not patient) for an extra night since baby was still in house.
Anyway, my experience at Alex was fine - there were some things that could have been better, as would be for any hospital. Being close to my house was my main criteria, and in that respect, Alex was great!
