I'm writing a blog post about single day child care activities/camps in Montgomery County for working parents. If you've found things you like or have thoughts on either Park Play Days or CREATE Arts Center camps, please e-mail me at mocomoms@gmail.com.
Thanks. Stacey Garfinkle http://www.mocomoms.com |
| I don't know anything about it but I saw an ad the other day for something at Adventure Theater (at Glen Echo). |

*Visiting local fire stations (a big hit with the preschool set)
*In the fall they have a corn maze at Homestead farm *Rec Swim at one of the indoor pools *going to DC via metro and visiting the museums during the week is great, especially if it is a professional day and only public schools are closed *Hill's gymnastics in gaithersburg has an open play time *Painting pottery (Rio, Cabin John have places) *Nature walk at great falls and take the easier trail down to see the water rapids *Do one of those food prep deals (dream dinners or let's dish) and have the kids help make the dinners |
| Are you looking for activities where the kids can be supervised or for things to do with the kids? |

She's looking for "single day child care activities/camps in Montgomery County for working parents". Although maybe some just take off all those ridiculous inservice and random days off throughout the year that schools have, I think the author's looking to focus on what working parents do when they can't just take those days off, but it's not winter break or something where it's a long block of time that there are lots of organized activities in place for.
I have a 2 year old, so no suggestions. But I'm up for lobbying to get rid of these crazy 1 day here and 1/2 day there policies that I know will drive me nuts once DD's in school!!! Looking at preschool schedules I'm already boggled at how un-friendly they are to working parents. yeah, I get it - it's a school, not babysitting. But when most families have 2 adults that work (or just 1 parent period), seems to make sense to organized the school schedule in a way that recognizes the common work schedule. |
| I was just trying to kindly point out that the pp who listed activities to do with your child had misunderstood the question. I understand the problem and am affected by it. |
For this particular blog, I'm looking for things where the kids are supervised (hence parents don't need to take the day off of work). |
| I am a teacher & I can tell you, we need our inservice days! We work hard all day & need to stay current with best practices in teaching & having a 1/2 day or full day to attend meetings & seminars is extremely helpful. Plus parent conferences are held on these days. We also have families to consider & can't be doing all of these things in the evening...especially with what we are paid. My DS is in daycare & they have days off that I do not have & while it can be frustrating, I totally understand. Look into SAHMs in your neighborhood or other working families that you can take turns watching the kids. It would also be wonderful if there were 1 day options for the kids...even if the schools ran recreational activities or showed movies on the days we have our inservices. |
