Would like to spend around $300 to update my fall wardrobe...please help!

I'm thinking a new pair of flats (maybe ballet flats?) to wear with jeans. Probably need a new pair of jeans and a new pair of khaki's too. A couple of cute, casual tops.

I'm a SAHM on a somewhat limited budget, but thankfully at least have an okay figure.

Can anyone recommend specific stores or brands? I'm kind of clueless and end up buying a lot at Old Navy. Links to actual items would be SUPER helpful so I know what I'm looking for when I go out!! I don't need to be unique...in fact, "what everyone else is wearing" is just fine with me. I just want to look cute and reasonably up to date, not frumpy or out of fashion.

Thanks in advance!!

Go for 2 pairs of jeans instead of khakis 1 bootleg and 1 skinnier leg. There is a new tape for hemming your jeans so that you can wear them with ballet flats and then take off for wearing with boots. I would go for the following:

2 pairs of jeans as noted above -- try Old Navy, Gap or Target -- no need to spend a ton, especially if you have a good figure
1 pair of comfortable boots (stacked heel) in a chocolate brown (as you can wear with black too)
1 pair of ballet flats (any kind, just get an inexpensive pair in a darker color i.e. teal, dark purple, black, etc)
Long sleeve t-shirts (fitted) from Old Navy, Gap or Target
A wrap style sweater
one black above the knee skirt (i bet you have one)
opaque tights

if you can swing a cashmere vneck or two (check filenes) may be a nice addition, as well.

Have fun!

I am the above poster, I think you can find these items for:

jeans (70 total)
boots (70 total) (you may have)
Tshirts buy 5 for 100
Wrap sweater 50
skirt (you likely have)
tights 20
cashmere 2 for 100 at filenes
ballet flats 20-30

Consider corduroys instead of khakis. Thin wale only.

Yep- no khakis.

Ann Taylor Loft has some cute fitted long sleeved t-shirts right now. Scooped neck, modern cut -- good for layering. Their jeans also fit me quite well. The style is not too young or too old.

consider getting a tall pair of boots that you can wear over jeans, under jeans and with a skirt for maximum style potential. A riding boot with a stacked heel would be great.

If you have a good figure, Gap had some nice corduroys this year and Jcrew always does, but more expensive. I would go for jeans as more versatile. Corduroys, which I like, are really only later fall and winter.

i third the no khakis...

you can also get some cute shirts at dillards (online) for very cheap if you look at the sale section. you might one to swap out one or two of the fitted t-shirts for something with some print/detail.

What's the objection to khakis?

They're just NOT flattering. They make women's hips look a mile wide (especially from the back, where we can't get a good look at ourselves). They are appropriate for men, but not so much for women. Maybe...maybe...if you find a really nice, expensive pair in a material OTHER than cotton (which stretches, and adds to the hip problem) in a different cut than they're normally found in, then you can get away with it, but definitely not your standard cotton khakis.

Second the suggestion on two pairs of jeans, one boot cut and one skinnier. I would also suggest that the boot cut be more a lighter wash (more casual) and the skinnier cut be a very dark wash. With the very dark wash skinnier jeans, make sure you can wear boots over them. That will give you a good night or day look.

I am a former Neiman Marcus (work clothes) now Target convert for casual clothes. You have to be picky but the long sleeve thinner t-shirts are great just be selective about color (blue or black not fushia). For jeans I would shop around and find the best fit. Boots now that the waether is starting to get cold are a good option. Ballet flats just seem too little girl to me.

I find Macy's a great place to get stuff for cheap when they have sales. I buy online but haven't had any problems with fit - and you can really get good deals. It is more expensive but I also am always shopping the JCrew sale items online. I really like the fit of their pants. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale.jsp

And last if want some Levis, Sears of all places is always having a sale on.

I just bought these flats last week (and am wearing them today, in fact) - they're actually comfortable, which isn't something I can say for many pairs of flats.
