There is a nanny search on this site and a daycare search, but how does one find an in-home licensed daycare center in Bethesda/CC/DC area? Are there any sites that have a listing? I would really like to check this out, but I don't know where to begin searching. On google I keep getting dog training websites or elderly home listings! |

choose "for parents" on the left, then "finding childcare," then scroll down and click on "search for Licensed Childcare" then "Do your own search." It will ask for your zip code and what kind of childcare you are looking for. The site is ridiculous -- it only gives you a few hits per entry -- but it's something. |
For home daycare in MoCo, you can try Monday Morning Moms. |
OP here, what's Monday Morning Moms? Is it a website? |
Sorry, I had to post quickly. Monday Morning Moms is a group that oversees a network of home daycares in MoCo only - so you call them and they can recommend home daycares in your area, set up appointments to see them, and they also visit frequently to make sure the daycares remain up to standard (all of the daycares are already licensed, this is just further oversight). Downside is, you pay more to go through them because you are paying their overhead.
Honestly though, for peace of mind, I've found it to be worth it, and we have found a truly wonderful daycare that I will be sad to leave when my younger child starts school. We're in Gaithersburg, so that doesn't help you much, but it's at least worth calling them to see if they have anything in your area. Phone is 301-528-4616. |
I found my in-home provider from: http://www.mdchildcare.org |
any suggestions for VA? |
I found my wonderful in-home daycare in Bethesda on this site! Someone posted that a space was available in the Daycare section, and gave them a raving review. After visiting and meeting the caregivers (and really liking them), I then followed up with Montgomery Co., by making sure they were licensed and to request copies of their recent inspections. Otherwise, I had planned to just go visit a bunch of them (after searching on the website others have referenced above). Finding a reference here first made it so much easier! Sorting through all the listings that came up in a general search was going to be daunting. |
Totally 2nd Monday Morning Moms. As first time parents, the extra accountability above and beyond state licensing standards was wonderful. It has been around for more than 15 years and is run by 3 moms. They really get to know the providers they accredit and they do their own unannounced site visits every 6 weeks. It is only for Montgomery County though, so would not help you in your DC search but they could help you with CC/Bethesda. |
For VA, infanttoddler.com |
I had a hard time getting anyone at Monday Morning Moms to ever pick up the phone. I was always waiting for a return call and of course when it came, I was busy. As a mom, I know when I have time to talk -- and that's when I call. I didn't appreciate being called back when they were ready and I (predictably) was not free to talk. |
OP here...I just spoke to Monday Morning Moms and the lady was SO very nice and very helpful, however, they really only have care providers outside the beltway and I live in Friendship Heights, so unfortunately they couldn't help me out. |
Ummmm...wow. It's only 3 people, and they go out to daycares a lot, so they aren't always right at the phone. But I've found they always return calls as soon as they can. How do you deal with any other organizations who have to return calls? You know what, nevermind, I'm not getting into this. MMM has been nothing but professional in my nearly 4 years of dealing with them, and I will continue to recommend them to anyone looking for home daycare in MoCo. I'm sorry to the OP - I didn't realize they only serve outside the beltway. |
Wow, you are seriously touchy. I wonder why you take this so personally. Blink, blink, blink. |
