Museums don't want to lend something long term that is beloved by the public, that the public wants to see. Past presidents have borrowed from national collections, like the Hirshhorn or National Portrait Gallery or National Gallery.https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/decorating-the-white-house-with-smithsonian-art-38252285/ Generally they haven't turned to privately funded museums such as the Guggeneheim to borrow from. And generally the works they've borrowed haven't been the star pieces of the collection. Because again, museums don't want to lend out their Van Goghs and Monets that visitors are going to come looking for. As for the gold toilet, well that is kind of cheeky. But surely something Trump would appreciate, since he had one of his own at Trump Tower. |

I'm usually the one up in arms whenever posters criticize his appearance, or Melania's looks, or their son, or things that don't pertain to his political views, but this??? I find this very appropriate. Not the toilet so much as the gold. It's funny, of course, but I don't think Trump would be offended, honestly. I think he'd like it and see the humor in it (if it worked and was sanitized, obviously). Not EVERYTHING is offensive. |
