milk consumption for teenager

How much milk should a 15 years old boy and 14 years girl be consuming each day?

The boy consumes about 40oz and girl about 30oz of Organic Horizon Milk with DHA Omega 3 every day. Half a gallon costs about $4.89

We recently switch over to Myenberg goat milk and they both love it because it has more calcium and better digestion than cow milk. The issue is that 32 oz of Myenberg goat milk goes for $3.54, almost twice the cost of Horizon milk. It means that my grocery bill will go up by almost 2x. To make the matter worse, now both want to eat goat cheese instead of cow cheese.

should I tell both of them to cut back on the milk from 40oz to 20oz for the boy and 30oz to 15oz for the girl?

Are they fat? Do they have rashes? If no, then forget it. Whatever they need.

OP here. They are both competitive swimmers. They are burning a hole in my pocket with goat milk

If you can't find a healthy alternative, you are stuck with this.

The DHA Omega 3 doesn't do anything. Just buy regular organic milk.

My 8 year old has 3-4 cups a day. I don't see the harm. He's a swimmer too.

1!5 and 14 years old is old enough to understand that mom has a budget.
It's old enough to understand you don't always get what you want. Wanting goat cheese doesn't mean you get it.
It's old enough to understand that getting what you want might mean sacrificing something else. So maybe they get the goat cheese, but they don't get the hummus.

When I was a teenager (female), I drank a gallon of milk a day. Lots of sports. Didn’t cut down until probably 16 when I stopped growing. Never drank soda, so milk was my go to drink. I’ll say this - never had a broken bone!

I'm surprised they aren't constantly constipated!

Buy one gallon a week. Once it's gone it's gone until next week.

If they want more they are free to use their allowances.

Mom clearly has the money to buy milk. They don't need organic. Costco has 3 half gallons for $10-11 and Aldi's has it for about $3 for organic. Regular is cheaper. Aldi's has cheaper goat cheese as does costco.

Teenagers, especially boys, consume an incredible amount of food. When I was that age, and also doing sports, I'd each 4-5 meals per day.

There are many things to cut back on, but food for your kids is probably not the best one to cut. Well goat cheese is a luxury, but the milk seems to be a basic need.

My teen boy has started drinking vast quantities of milk after ignoring it for years. DH and I could not figure out where all the milk was going. He'd drink a gallon a day if we'd let him. We've started hiding milk in containers he won't think to look in.

I don't think there is a particular amount of milk that a teen "should" be drinking. I stopped measuring my kids' ounces of milk per day by age 3 and neither of them likes milk now unless it's in a latte or something.. Give them a calcium supplement, some water, and another source of calories if you don't want to buy a gallon of goat milk every day.
