This may be a silly question, but what programs would a soon-to-be 2 year old like best? We've pretty much kept our DC away from TV. Now that DC is approaching 2 years and we're expecting a new baby, I'm curious what programs are suited for this age. There seems to be too much to choose from (e.g., WETA, Disney, Nick, etc.). Not looking to have DC watch anything regularly, but rather occasionally have 15 - 30 minute intervals to watch a show. If anyone has found anything that works for your 2 year old, please post. Thanks! |
We like Noggin best. There are no commercials (there are commercials on PBS now! It's really bad on Nick Jr and Disney).
At 2 , my daughter loved Max and Ruby, Little Bear and Jack's Music Show. |
Noggin or sprout. No way on nick or disney. too many commerials and words not allowed in our house . studpid, shut up, butt. None of this on noggin or sprout. |
My almost 2 YO loves Sesame Street, and Barney (I have no idea why...). Occasionally he'll watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but it doesn't hold his interest as much as the others. |
Another vote for Noggin - any program will work. The programs are great, no commercials. They also have these little learning segment (with Moose and Z) with I really like. |
Do Playhouse Disney (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, HiggleyTown Heroes, Little Einsteins) instead of normal Disney. Those are DD's favorite shows. |
Make way for noddy (sprout) Little Einsteins (disney) |
We love noggin or sprout. I really don't mind if my kids (4 and almost 2) watch either. Not all day, but the shows are really good! |
we don't like Nick or Disney at all. So sad that Disney has so many bad shows now. When older, Discovery Kids is pretty cool. |
what is noggin? a channel or a show? |
I agree with everything that's been said so far. Two others that mine liked at that age were Wiggles and Doodle Bops. |
mine also likes Noggin-especially Diego and Dora, but he LOVES PBS's Curious George and Super Why |
OP here...THANK YOU all for sharing your thoughts! I'm assuming Noggin and Spout are channels, no? Not sure if we have them, but I will check with DH... |
Noggin is a channel. Sprout is a PBS channel. Noggin has great shows (Backyardigans, Franklin (the turtle) and others ) and no commercials. Sprout has Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine (our son likes it but I find the Thomas stories to be pretty creepy - those trains need therapy more than I do!). I prefer Noggin but both seem much better than the alternatives I've seen.

Watch out for the commercials. Many of the recommended shows are fine, but the stations show way too many materialistic grabby commercials.
At that age, I always put on whatever cartoons the spanish stations showed (we don't speak spanish, but it didn't matter to my son). Since these were primarily low budget stations, the adds were for lawyers, and other things a two year old could ignore. Disney made me sick. |
