Trump has mentioned a while ago that he has a soft corner for the dreamers. He also had signaled to Ryan that he would not rescind the DACA order. Then he sent Sessions to gleefully announce the DACA withdrawal. Now Trump is gung ho about passing dreamer act. He is even sending tweets defending dreamers as if to send a FU signal to Sessions talk that dreamers were illegal criminal.
He killed two with one bullet. He would announce that after Obama failed to pass the dreamer act, he did! And he would show Sessions (who "betrayed" him with Mueller appointment) who is the boss. One heck of reality TV. |
Interesting theory. Sessions still has Stephen Miller embedded in the White House, although it seems his influence is waning. |
Why else was he not standing next to Sessions for this announcement and the very next tweeted that he would revisit and next week a deal to pass the dreamer act. Hate trump but cheer for him to stick it to the evil man Sessions. Would be lovely if Sessions stick it back to the evil man trump. |
trump is a vindictive little man. This is absolutely something that he would do. Lucky for us, Pelosi and Schumer are smart enough to exploit trump's character deficiencies. |
It's called the circular firing squad, ladies and gentlemen, and it's a wonderful thing. |
"Trump Humiliated Jeff Sessions After Mueller Appointment"
"The president blamed the appointment of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, on Mr. Sessions’s decision to recuse himself from the Justice Department’s Russia investigation — a move Mr. Trump believes was the moment his administration effectively lost control over the inquiry. Accusing Mr. Sessions of “disloyalty,” Mr. Trump unleashed a string of insults on his attorney general. Ashen and emotional, Mr. Sessions told the president he would quit and sent a resignation letter to the White House, according to four people who were told details of the meeting. Mr. Sessions would later tell associates that the demeaning way the president addressed him was the most humiliating experience in decades of public life." https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/14/us/politics/jeff-sessions-trump.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 |
Probably. Trump's a jerk. |
Why the heck is Sessions taking it then? Why doesnt he quit? |

It must be a very small corner. Anyway, with him nothing is final until it's signed. He specializes in jerking people around. When Congress passes a bill and he signs it, then let's talk. I'm not holding my breath. |

He did try to quit. |

Trump has an authoritarian streak but his action on DACA is primarily based on his wish to make a "deal" and pass some legislation.
He really does not have any core political philosophy and this is both good and bad. Good in that unlike more doctrinaire politicians he is able to change his position if it ends up in some sort of deal. Bad, because nothing he says can be given much credence because he will change his mind in an instant if it is expedient to do so. |
Those who chose to serve him deserve it. |
