On the va DOEd site if you like to look at your school |
A quick compilation of SOLs in five key subject areas for all students at some better known area NoVa high schools:
1. Langley 2. West Springfield 3. McLean 4. Marshall 5. Woodson 6. George Mason 7. Madison/Oakton (tie) 9. Robinson 10. Yorktown 11. Chantilly 12. Centreville 13. Lake Braddock 14. Washington-Lee 15. South Lakes |
West Springfield has done well with this |
It all seems a bit unfair when comparing some schools. In areas with more tech, you will likely have more kids with an aptitude for math and science and thus higher scores. More lawyers, etc-more high scoring readers. If they have an AAP program of course scores will be higher. If there are self-contained classrooms with kids scoring significantly below average cognitively then the pass rate will be lower. I think a small part is teacher competence. |
SOL scores don't matter much in high school....students are much more focused on AP and SAT scores. All they care about is whether they pass them, since they're needed for graduation. |
The SOL schools drive the later Great Schools ratings. If nothing else, this is a good indication that, at a minimum, the 1-6 schools in the earlier posts will be GS 9s when the 2016-17 ratings as the basis for the GS ratings, and that the 14-15 schools will be, at best, 5s, while those in the middle will probably be somewhere in between. |
So Washington-Lee will be a GS rating of 5? OMG my home value is about to plummet. |
Looks like Lake Braddock is lower than normal (?) |
The middle/high school capacity problems in APS will probably have a greater impact on your home value than the GS rating at W-L. |
I live a few hours outside of DC in VA.
I wanted to know what you guys thought of this, my daughter was in third grade last year and so she took her first year of SOL's. Obviously I don't have her individual scores yet. However, I noticed that the third-graders at her school did not an insignificant amount worse than third graders at her school in previous years. So I decided to look at some of the other top elementary schools in our district, we have three high-performing elementary schools and the rest are abysmal. There was a similar decrease in all of the schools for this past year's third-grade SOL scores in comparison to previous years. Thoughts? I do see that there were fewer questions this past year. Secondly do you know when individual scores will be mailed? Or is that district by district |
It was consistently a 5 for years. It has a temporary bump up that has likely corrected itself. |
Oh, the humanity! |
Our district sent scores home with the end of year progress reports. |
Where is a link to scores? |
