Vaginal Atrophe. Is it reversible?

Anonymous
Serious question. Experienced pain during recent pelvic exam w obgyn. Was told it's from vaginal atrophe. I'm thinking wth? Can this be corrected? Or is it done? I'm in a sexless relationship at age 55 (working on leaving). Is there anything I can do to rehab it or is it withered and rendered useless? TIA

Estrogen cream, or there's also a ring - EstRing - that you leave in place. Sex helps, but go easy at first. Some women even need dialators if it's been a long time.

It won't be like when you were 25, but it can be very pleasant!

Virginia Hospital Center has a great pelvic floor PT program. Ask your OB for a referral!!!

If it's only during the gyn why would you want to risk surgery or other procedures unless it's going to compromise your health?

Presumably OP is thinking about her future which might not be sexless. In my understanding vaginal atrophy is largely hormonal, and it treated with hormones not surgery.

Do ask your gynecologist, but while you are waiting, Replens vaginal moisturizer is available over the counter. It does help.

Ask your doctor about the MonaLisa laser treatment.

Mona Lisa. It works. Also helps with frequent urination. There is also a new vaginal cream by prescription that really works, unlike the older versions - AND makes you want to get down and funky!

Yes, please, I need this. Would be thrilled at this point with sexless relationship, but DH is not. I need that cream.

OP is it Premarin?

So you haven't put anything in there for pleasure? Fingers, sex toys? At 55 why bother.

I tried the creams but with no luck. Sex still painful. Got the estrogen ring which one inserts and leaves in. That worked!

So atrophy is completely reversible. Takes some time and work with small dildos (buy on amazon if you want) but it can be reversed.
