Sorry AA folks! Sorry legal immigrants.

AA folks and legal immigrants have access to other financial aid programs not available to undocumented students. This program appears to be aimed at closing that gap.

Conveniently ignored all of Emory's other aid programs for legal immigrants, AAs, and everybody else. But, whatever. http://www.studentaid.emory.edu/types/ucol/index.html |
Aid going to illegals couldd have gone to legal students. |
So what? |
Correct |
Isn't Emory University free to do what it wants with its money? |
It's not your money. It's their money. |
Exactly. OP, unless Emory is billing you for this you need to STFU. |
Yes, and the money that you spend on luxuries could be used to feed the poor. But, Emory University, just like you and me, gets to choose how to spend its own money. |
Undocumented and DACA students generally claim their parents have no income (no tax returns) or assets, so they qualify for full boat financial aid, with many grants and scholarships earmarked especially for them. Emory may be broadcasting it, but similar practices at every college in the U.S. News top 100, including UVA, UMD, and Georgetown. |
Last I checked, private universities were free to do whatever they want with their money. They could give it all away to "illegals!" Wouldn't that get your goat, OP? |
Good for Emory. Let's close that gap. There's no reason Americans should get special treatment in America. |
Emory University is a private institution.
If you think outside parties -- or heaven forbid, the US government -- should be able to tell Emory how to spend its private funds, you should be aware of what you are advocating. It's fine to be critical. Sure, whatever. But understand this is not your money, or the US government's money, and that you should be okay with accepting the same level of criticism yourself. |
That was a nice lecture. Thank you. |
