| Wilson's Budget is being cut, again. Today several employees have been "excessed" including two counselors. Who can we contact to re-instate the budget per the needs of the school? |
| The Chancellor. Mary Cheh. |
| Have you reached out to the Wilson LSAT members? |
| Hopefully not my daughters 11th grade counselor. |
Yep, she's one. |
| But each of the 4 counselors is already serving more than 400 students, correct? How can two of them be cut? |
| Because a guidance counselor helping with college applications is "excess"?? |
Currently there are two 9th grade and two 12th grade counselors. There is one for 10th and one for 11th. It will likely either mean one per grade or caseloads split evenly among 1800+ students. |

This is messed up for those parents with rising seniors. Truly a disaster. They get rid of the one counselor that had extensive knowledge about the college process.
I was always neutral till now, but Ms. Martin is ruining that school. |
| This happens every year and then things are always made right again. Just sit tight and don't let it raise your blood pressure too much. |
They are the ones that advised the principal of the budget in the first place! LEAP costs out of control and unviable, morale at DCPS low, there are approx 300 teacher vacancies at the moment! |
Theb it doesn't sound like it's all Martin's fault. If I were her, I'd make moves to cut things my politically savvy parent community would rally around to save. |
Contact the Mayor and ask why we need to spend $200 million dollars to renovate Coolidge (aka "Jail") instead of investing in schools that actually produce graduates. Seriously, Coolidge has maybe 300 students and none of them can read at grade level. Send the kids to Roosevelt, sell the property to a developer and there will be some great condos and more tax revenues in Takoma. |
Different budgets. Capital vs operating. Find another ox to gore. |
With that logic and the baby room happening in the Coolidge boundary, Roosevelt will be overcrowded. Have you venture to Petworth lately? |
