OP here. There are a lot of discrepancies with how many years they are sentenced to. 28 was the first one I saw but looking back, I see many people saying different things.

The southern poverty law center has looked into this, but I'm guessing you don't regard them as a credible organization. The Herotage Foundation has not stufied this yet, sorry.

It's because white supremacists, neo-confederates, KKK and others all rallied behind Trump in ways we have not seen since the 1950s, and Trump constantly spoke in language that energized and empowered them, Trump demonized and marginalized minorities hated by folks like the ones in the article, they all unequivocally saw Trump as taking America back for white people and as a spokesperson for their movement. And, in the run-up to the election and afterward there were hundreds of hate crimes against minorities reported, many of which were committed in Trump's name - an unprecedented spike. And no, they weren't "fake news" - out of the 1000+ that were reported, only 13 turned out to be hoaxes or fake.

People should not be flying the Confederate flag anyhow. It's the flag of a hostile foreign entity. It's as disrespectful as flying the flags of Nazi Germany, Soviet Union, North Korea...

Plus, it's not even really legit to tout as "southern heritage" - the Confederacy only lasted less than 5 years. 5 devastating and destructive years is all the South has to talk about?

Even Robert E. Lee said the Confederate flag should never be raised again and he lived it and knew a whole lot more about what it all meant than these modern-day confederate flag waving pretenders ever could or ever will.
