Here ya go CCL folks. |
It attracts the same kind of clubs and people, IMO.
I find Loudoun, Arlington, McLean very similar. Impersonal. Factory. Nepotism. Top-down organizations that cater to the loudest mouths and biggest spenders. They tend to just select athletes--big, fast, ball-booters. None of them play beautiful soccer or attempt possession. I don't think any of them are great at developing young players. Poor Braddock Road was in there and these people would gloat and make fun of the big wins they had over them at the younger age groups. My beef isn't necessarily the league per se. It's that the league claims to be development, but it was really for coach convenience. And any league game 3-4 hour drive is ridiculous. |
^^if you build something to be the bestest, elitist, thing ever--you can't be surprised by the kind of people you find on the sidelines and what attracts them. A label v quality. The "name brand" crowd. Fooled by fancy things. |
A 3-4 hour drive is convenient for a coach? |
Good point? |
Meant ![]() |
when a ccl club has to go to another club to play, is it both the boys and girls side time or just one? |
both |
The idea is that a coach (really the technical director and assistants) can see all the club's A teams in one place each weekend. So, yes -- like the switch to birth years, this was done to make life slightly easier for technical staff and much worse for parents. |
Yep. And even in the very youngest years--the A team is all they care about. Very developmental-minded, right? |
^ bump for newbies |
and you all say you want your kids to play TRAVEL soccer but don't want to travel.
If you drive 3-4 hours you also play a game on the way on Saturday and one on Sunday. For example, you play in Charlottesville on Saturday, travel to Roanoke stay over and play there Sunday, actually makes for a nice weekend to spend time with your kid. Oh wait, you all don't want to do that either |
No. We don't. How far is too far? Maybe weekend games in Chicago? How about London? Hey, I'd love to spend a weekend in Europe, but I'm not sure I have the time or money. Plenty of people would be perfectly happy taking one overnight soccer trip a year and playing the rest of their games within a two-hour radius. Not sure why that's such a controversial thing. |
Then you are in the wrong business. We spend several weekends a year traveling and chicago is one of them, dallas, orlando, las vegas, that si travel soccer, you want rec soccer with a hotel stay for "team bonding" |
Upcoming Arlington U9 A and B teams break that mold (if accurate) of big players who boot - around 1/2 selected are fast littler kids with real dribbling talent this year. |
