Cost of mathnasium

What is the cost of Mathnasium, and has it been a worthwhile expenditure for you?
Thx.

My second grade DS attends in Alexandria. It is a contract and it is $299 for six months or $279 for twelve. I am not sure if the cost is different for other ages.

It has been worth it for us. We take him twice a week and they work though a curriculum with a teacher and they can also bring their homework with them. That being said I think it is worth it for this age to get them off to a good start. I do not know if I will continue when he is a bit older. There are definitely older kids there though, most of whom seem to need remedial help.

That's per month. 299 per month for six months. It's more expensive than Kumon and other compeitors.

It's self paced. If your child can't stay on track on his own, a private tutor is a better route. The Burke Mathnasium is outstanding. Just know that that's not curriculum at FCPS but math skills in general.

I live by "You get what you pay for!" Mathnasium doesn't give homework like others. Why on earth would my daughter want MORE homework after doing her school hmwk AND just being tutored?? Anyway, me not having to help her with homework, espec once she reached Algebra took the stress off me. I can afford $26/hr to get help 3x week. Year-round monthly pymt option was cheaper than 6 mos.

how much of the hour is it 1:1 face time with the tutor?

We've been going for one hour once a week. They generally recommend going for 2 hours per week, but this works better for us. The cost ends up being something like $35/session. I think if you sign up for twice a week it's cheaper. Although this isn't 1:1 it seems more than adequate.

How much of the hour is actually 1:1?

My son goes a few days each week after school. They work on binders of their own work (he is in 8th grade and is working on Algebra 1 stuff). If he needs help with it, he raises his land and one of the teachers helps him. So the one-on-one part depends on how much help they need.

We used Mathnasium for about a year. Our DD is advanced, and we wanted to make sure she was getting a comprehensive understanding of math since compacted (accelerated) math moves quickly. We noticed a major jump in her scores- from spring to fall her MAP-M jumped 12 points. Since it was over the summer, it had to be from Mathnasium. Our center in Montgomery County was 200 per month and gave a bonus day so we got 3 days per week. I found the center would negotiate on contract length.

We did Mathnasium also and will prob do it again. Both kids in AAP in FCPS and we found the self-paced program is really fantastic for them.
This isn't a "tutor" scenario though. They work through some self-paced examples and practice pages that are very clear and when they have questions the student/tutor at the table will help them. They can also get help on their own homework from school for half of the 1-hour time block if they want to, so that is useful as well.

One of my kids loves it. The other is just lukewarm about it. But the model is a good one.
