Skin reaction to titanium marker after breast biopsy?

| I had a breast biopsy two or three weeks ago. A titanium marker was placed during the procedure. Now I have a red rash, somewhat itchy, on my breast in the same area as the core needle biopsy. Am I crazy or is this a reaction to the titanium marker? |

Supposedly, titanium is non-allergenic and won't cause a reaction in anyone. I'm skeptical of that, it seems impossible that there's a metal that no one would react to, but it is a medical-grade material chosen for that reason.
That said, the location of my core biopsy was itchy for awhile too - I think it was the scar tissue forming, not a reaction. Scar tissue can be quite itchy at first. I'm now 9 months out from my biopsy and don't have any issues. |

| Call your doctor. You definitely could be allergic. While you're waiting for a call back take some Benadryl to help stop the itch/scratch cycle. |

Op here. Which dr? Radiologist who performed the biopsy? Dermatologist? OBGYN? |

The one who put the marker in. They are going to be most experienced with possible side effects and if it needs to come out they will be the one to do it. |

DId you have internal stitches? I've had allergic reactions to the self dissolving stitches.

No internal stitches, but good thought. It was 2.5 weeks ago (I finally looked at the calendar), so it would be strange as a reaction to the steri-strips or tape because those have been off for a while now. This sucks. And dare I say it is slightly spreading. |

I also had the biopsy with the titanium marker in Nov of 2016. (Did not know and would have opted out because I am allergic to metal)
It started immediately and now 6-7 months later, and my breast itches every day, internally and a rash has developed on the skin. I still have the chip, I am using natural methods for my cancer treatment and do not want surgery if possible. I took natural biotics for an unrelated infection and I noticed that the burning sensation I also used to feel in the area where the chip was placed subsided. Another consulting Oncologist said that she thinks the skin rash is a fungal infection. She wanted to give me steroids .... no thank you .. counterproductive to the way I am curing my cancer. I am using Tea Tree oil on the rash and have been using coconut oil since the rash started months ago. Tea Tree oil has anti-fungal properties. Still no relief. She seems to think it is unrelated ... the timing is too perfect for my taste. Decades ago I breastfed and did not have problems with rashes. Have you found any relief? |

I am also going through the same pain post marker insertion. May I know how you were able to overcome it? Did you remove the marker? |

| I got that resction from the steri strip tape or whatever they used for a bandage. |

IME with lots of allergic rashes, sometimes they worsen even after the allergen is removed. Your skin gets sensitized and continues to react until you calm or down completely.
Talk to the doctor and see what they say, but it’s not necessarily the marker you’re reacting to. Keep us informed! |

| It's probably the marker. I had pain from mine and could feel it trying to worm its way out , or being ejected from my body. Turned out they didn't get a good biopsy sample and they had to do a lumpectomy. All pain and problems from the marker gone after it was removed with the lumpectomy. And my breast surgeon outright rejected that I was having any issue with the marker, well she was wrong. |
