Cake decorator for children's birthday cakes..

I'm hoping to find someone in the No VA area who will either decorate a character cake or who makes good character cakes for toddler parties. I have not found a good bakery locally as most of their cakes do not taste fresh and overly pastry-like, not like a moist birthday cake. I'd prefer to have a homemade cake but I am not skilled enough to decorate what I'm looking for (a lady bug), so if anyone knows someone who does this on the side, as a profession, or can recommend a bakery that doesn't make the plastic-like tasting cakes that woudl be great!

I actually bake and custom decorate cakes, and live in the northern virginia area (specifically McLean). I highly recommend Christina Hoffman at simplysweetbakery. She has a website and her cakes taste and look fantastic. They are homemade. I have asked her to do some very complicated designs and they came out perfect.

At this point, I am using her services for about one party a month and have recommended her to everyone I know.

And....she delivers!

She made me a wonderful cake for my son's 2nd birthday! Beautiful and delicious! I highly recommend her.

I ordered the most wonderful cake for my son's 1st birthday from Stefanie's Cakes. http://www.stefaniescakes.com/. She works in Falls Church and honestly makes the best cake I've ever had. My husband usually only goes to parties if she's made the cake. She does tons of kids birthday cakes and can pretty much make anything you ask. I highly recommend her.
