Do you have a teenager? Because 17 year olds are still very young, and very vulnerable. I seriously doubt there are 17 year olds choosing to do porn. The mechanisms by which pressure is put on young men and women to participate maybe different, but it's not less sad.

I'm not PP but I understand what they're saying. Any 17yr old involved in a pornographic situation probably isn't there by choice. At the same time, there are circumstances where a 19yr old has been arrested for having sex with his 17yr old girlfriend, which most people deem far less creepy and sex abuser-ish than a 60yr old having sex with a 17yr old.

I think what PP is saying is that somehow it makes your stomach slightly less queasy to think that the guy was getting off to pictures of naked teenagers than images of toddlers or prepubescent children.

And here is the thing. JimBob and Michelle lived a normal life until Josh was around 6, born again christians yes - but functioning in society and well "normal". It was after Michelle miscarried "Caleb" and got it in her head (or had it put there) that her taking birth control "murdered" her baby and she was a wicked sinner. She had to talk JimBob into the Gothardite Cult. She was the driving force of the change. JimBob has stated this on the show and its been in their books.

Now say what you want about JimBob but he is a pretty shrewd business man, owning several, growing them, etc. As he sees his money train chugging off in the distance I wonder if maybe, just maybe he might not steer the family in a different direction and away from the cult.

Papa Duggar then called Anna's Dad and arranged a meeting of the families. And they went back and forth with these supervised meetings until one day Josh got down on his knee and proposed.

Considering it was called "Operation Spyglass" and they went after 24 men, for possessing child porn and having sex with minors I highly doubt the state bureau put all the money and effort into guys looking at 17 year olds.

I disagree. Lots of people grow up in distorted, very religious environments, and never end up molesting anyone, or cheating on their spouses, or being a complete hypocrite.

I'd feel more sympathy if he decided to live a private life after getting married, but Josh chose to be public. He chose to be work for what's essentially a hate-group. He chose to be a complete hypocrite in his public vs. personal life, and he chose to negatively affect the personal lives of others via laws & public policy in his hate-filled campaigns.

He has lived a very privileged, non-sheltered life. He has had the options to choose differently, since becoming an adult and leaving the Duggar compound. He knows he has other options (regarding choices, therapies, etc), but he's chosen differently. I don't think he's that naive.

I hope he moves forward and makes more compassionate & healthy choices in his life, but I don't feel sorry for Josh Duggar - much in the same way that I don't feel sorry for the Ted Haggards, Aaron Shocks, and other royal hypocrites of the world.

That's interesting. It would explain why the "turning" was pretty vague and non-inflammatory. She can't go too far from the fold because she's too preachy for mainstream and won't get speaking engagements if she's not.
