To all of you "costco-ers"...do you have an extra freezer in the basement / garage? I keep trying to "stock up", but I run out of room quickly....when is the ROI met with purchasing a small, stand alone freezer coupled with the $50.00 per year Costco fee...

Costco shopper here. No, I don't have an extra freezer - too expensive and would eat up all of my savings. What I do though is repackage things in ziploc bags which take up far less room in the freezer. And, most of my Costco shopping is for milk, bread, cheese, lunchmeat and eggs. |
"Safeway, Harris Teeter, and Giant ALWAYS double coupons."
I have been using coupons at Safeway and Giant and they have never doubled them. Where do you shop? Anyone else have coupons doubled at Giant or Safeway? |
I don't know about Safeway, but Giant definitely doubles up to $0.99. |
bee balm. LOL. |
Out of the loop... Why is bee balm funny? |
"I have never seen a cupon for a "from scratch" item, such as eggs, flour, fresh veggies, real butter, or milk. The only real processed food we eat is cereal, but we get that at Costco as well."
We shop mainly at Costco too but find plenty of coupons that save more than Costco prices. Cereal in particular. The Costco prices are better than not being on sale at the grocery store but on sale at Target, Walmart or the Grocery store with a coupon is much better. We find wheaties, cheerios and other non sugary ones all the time. Organic milk is cheaper at Giant without a sale than Costco. Giant is usually doing some milk promotion on the organics. If you buy $10 worth of their organic line you get a $3 gift card against your next purchase. For a while they were doing a free half gallon of organic milk after 6 purchases. |
"Funny you ask...I actually purchase wheat grown locally, milled locally and I do bake my own bread, one loaf a week is pleanty and it takes no time at all in the bread maker, which even mixes the ingredients for me, all I do it pour it in. As matter of fact, I do have a very large garden, it supplies just about all of my fresh produce in season and what I can't use I can or freeze. I don't drink coffee, but I do grow bee balm, which I dry and use for tea. And, no I do not raise my own livestock, but again get that locally too, in bulk, so close enough.
About laundry, I line dry all of my clothes when I can. I'm a working mom, I guess I have more time, as I'm not spending time scouring Sunday coupons. Sorry that coupons (or cupons as I prefer) don't work well for me. I might be able to save a dollar a week with my shopping habits, it is not worth it. Again, I save money on groceries by eating at home and cooking from scratch. Anyone intersted in this type of eating should read Animal Vegetable Miracle by Kingsolver or check out the westin Price Foundation. Someone asked about spices...I get my spices at the international grocery stores-they are dirt cheap and of great quality. There is a lot you can get at international grocery stores that are really cheap. I shop at Grand Mart frequently for fresh herbs. " This woman reminds me of the homely women who don't shave their legs or their pits, or snip their chin hairs, 'cause it's not natural, and expect admiration from the world.... |
To nutty anti-coupon lady.
I don't drive . The next time the price of gas or car payments and insurance comes up on this blog, I'll get off on a rant about how cars don't work for me and present a dissertation on the marvels of public transportation and my employer provided Transit Check. Saves me a lot of dough. And how people who drive cares are raping the environment. What do you think the response will be? |
OMG, I barely have time to go to ONE store on the weekend, much less several stores to get different stuff. "Scouring" the coupons takes 5 minutes. It's nice that you can live like this, but it's not really very practical for most people. |
I don't understand why everyone is attacking the woman who choses not to clip coupons and who likes to make her food from scratch.
When I read her posts, I did not detect any snobbery or condecension. People attacked her and then she had to defend herself some. Who cares if she doesn't want to clip coupons, and you do? Unbelievable. |

It's interested. This blog has spell check. It's pretty hard to miss, unless you are color blind from being out in the sun too much doing laundry. You have just been selected as a semi-finalist in the "Most Annoying Mom" contest. Stay tuned, hon. |
Actually, the most annoying moms are the ones who pick on others' misspellings. Do you do that with your kids, too? Way to lead by example. |
A**hole much? |
I went to Giant yesterday and they did indeed DOUBLE my coupons. I had four 20 cent coupons, there were EIGHT 20 cent off entries. Had three 50 cent coupons, there were six 50 cent off entries in bold at the bottom of the receipt. They do double them. In addition, here is the link to the Giant website which explains that THEY DOUBLE COUPONS. http://www.giantfoodstores.com/shareddev/sharedcontent/Savings/DoubleandInternetCouponPolicy.cfm |
