Ian Klaus - Chelsea's earlier boyfriend - must have kept in good contact with the Clintons...In his wedding announcement from a year or two ago, it says he was working for the Office of the Sec. of State - i.e. Hillary Clinton

Aw, that just reminded me that my dad really wanted me to keep my maiden name as my middle name in case I was ever appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. I did. (And I won't be )

I wish she had just named the baby "charlotte anne clinton" and used her last name.

Why, is it too "ethnic" for you?

DH should take your last name and make his last name his middle name. And you keep your last name but use his last name as your middle name. For example, First Name Pitt Jolie instead of First Name Jolie Pitt.

is it common to give your last name as a second name to a child?

I suppose the baby is not jewish as Chelsea has not converted

Yes, that's common. Where are you from that you don't know that?

Everyone that I know have a name that could also be a first name as a second name. This must be a new American custm. If you look at geneology, there is no great granny Agnes Jones Smith, Alexander Kardasian Hilton

Nope. Southern custom going back generations in my family. All the women back to at least the 1850s have names like this.

Traditional WASP as well. Everyone I grew up with who was one had a family name as a middle name in Boston.

When people leave banks etc, they often have to take "garden leave" first - they've signed noncompete agreements and can't work for a specific period of time. So he was doing that once and the press jumped on him unfairly for being a slacker.

Both of them were born with silver spoons in their mouths. There's very little either could be said to have accomplished entirely on his or her own merits. I don't think I've seen a picture of him in many years where he was clean-shaven. There's a message there for all to see.

What does being clean shaven have to do with anything? Are you implying that he's too lazy to shave or something else?

I agree with you that they are the prime example of people who were born on third base but think they hit a triple. The reality is we don't know where they'd be if they were just Chelsea and Marc of Little Rock Arkansas or Harrisburg Pa because their last names have shaped their accomplishments. I do think Chelsea is smart, but there are thousands of kids just as smart who apply to Stanford and are rejected every yr. Were they really going to reject the first daughter? Stanford got the ball rolling for her and after that she got into jobs at McKinsey, NBC etc -- again she is smart but lots of very smart kids get rejected from those kinds of jobs all the time. Of course NBC wanted her on the air -- even though she only reported 1-2 times every few months max. Lots of famous people benefit from their fame, though it's good that she's used her fame for education, jobs, and now running her parents' foundation which does do good works.

What makes you think they "think they hit a triple"? I'm sure they are both well aware that they were born to a life of privilege.

Clinton is a white trash, vaginal cigar stuffing bad breeding name.

I would much rather my kids turn out like Chelsea than like the Bush girls. I think the Clintons did a great job with her. She seems smart, articulate, can stay out of the limelight, etc.

"On his own merits" now, that's hilarious! You don't think his success as a hedge fund manager had anything to do with his family's connections? Although, I can see why he would want to distance himself from his father, a criminal.

Seriously criminals/their families do well at hedge funds -- you're not black listed. Also isn't/wasn't his mother a Senator or governor from Pa? He grew up a Washington insider, which means he can pretty much get into any hedge fund he wants; there are lots of them in NYC and most are indistinguishable and they do try to distinguish on the basis of famous people -- the fact that he's Chelsea's husband only helps him.

Apparently Bill doesn't like him -- in part bc he is all about money and nothing else but also kind of lazy (not just about the garden leave) -- and doesn't really speak to him and he feels like a third wheel in the Clinton family. I suspect that only grows now with a grandkid -- the Clintons have their daughter and grand-daughter to dote on and really don't need him.

Garden leave is fine but who goes without their newlywed bride!? He took off for months after they got married on a snowboarding trip while she was working in NYC. It's stuff like that that leaves a bad taste. I suspect he has more golf rounds and snowboarding trips in his future -- his inlaws will be involved with the kid and he may not want to be around all the time.

This isn't the woman that Chelsea Clinton is supposed to be, marrying a lazy, selfish man. Wonder if her mom putting up with her dad's shenanigans affected her so that she married a guy who puts her through similar crap.

Eh, I don't know. She grew up with two intense, ambitious, workaholic parents. She's seems pretty hardworking and focused herself and can easily earn a boatload of money (i.e. the sweet deal she had at NBC), so she doesn't need a partner who makes a ton of money. Maybe what she needs is an easy-going, low-key man who can be her soft place to fall.

Chelsea is an only and her parents are self-made. The Bush twins are not. I don't know why they are they way they are because Laura seems like she would have raised great kids.

Leave the Bush twins out of this thread. Yes, they were annoying and immature in college but they have developed into accomplished women themselves.

Focus on Charlotte.

Does her husband have a rep for having a drug or drinking problem? He rarely looks happy and often looks slovenly, like his hair is not washed? Issues with depression maybe? Babies are happy but put stress on even solid folks and relationships. Still think of Chelsea as about 12. Wish them the best. Something about the husband just seems shifty...

You are so weird. I bet you're the same poster who suggested a page or two ago that Marc has bipolar disorder.

Not me and no need to call me names. He looks unwashed and slovenly in many photos, just a fact. If he could be bipolar, that often has a later onset, which could explain a change in behavior patterns. Most hedge fund managers are acquainted with shampoo. If not, could be cause for concern, esp in light of other erratic behavior. Time will tell...
