Really, I don't see any teasing from the other students either. In your case, it's probably a good idea to talk to his teacher, but also to make sure he knows that he is "allowed" to go to the bathroom when he needs to. Perhaps even if there is a "no bathroom time" during the day (I usually don't let my students go when we are on the carpet in a whole group activity) the teacher can make an exception for him so he knows he can go when he feels the need to.

Also, lots of kids won't poop at school. Not unusual at all, in my experience. To answer your question about school protocol, all my students have a complete change of clothes that stays at school. If a kid has an accident, an adult walks them down to the nurse with their clothes bag and she takes over from there.

Also a K teacher here (retired now). Pee accidents were very, very rare in my classroom. A little more common at the beginning of the year, though, and mostly with kids who have some special needs, but way less common than in most classrooms. The reason? I let kids use the restroom whenever they want. No restriction at all, and I made sure they knew it. In fact, using the restroom when you needed it was kind of a rule. You don't ask or anything. If you don't want accidents in your room, stop making kids ask to go first. They can't wait that long. And stop with the carpet thing - you have nothing to say that is that important that they should pee their pants for it.

+1000.

My son had a pee accident at lunch on Monday this week and then another on the school bus today right before he got home. Before this, he was fine at school but twice in one week has me nervous. I hope it doesn't happen again but he is very shy about speaking up, especially outside the classroom (lunch, recess, specials etc). I know he also holds #2 at school but so far that has worked out with going before and after school. They whole thing really stresses me out a lot as a mother, I don't want him to be embarrassed. Ugh. He is very well behaved at school and doesn't want to break the routine by asking to go when he is supposed to be doing something else (which is all day pretty much). Any advice? Is this one of those small things I am not supposed to stress over?

Depends on the child. They are still learning to control their body at that age and there are bound to be accidents.

My DD in K had an accident in Jan. Fortunately, she was not embarrassed. It happens!

My D'S has had one accident in K so far. He waited too long, and then there was another kid in the single stall bathroom, and then it was too late. The teacher wasn't upset or surprised, DS wasn't embarrassed, and I didn't hear about any teasing.

I peed my pants in K so bad that I remember the whole incident, because I didn't feel I could approach the teacher. They called my parents and I had to go home.

I am trying to teach my daughter that she can approach adults to use the bathroom. It is an ongoing conversation.

"Specials" teacher here, I always let the kids go to the bathroom but have times when I discourage them- beginning and end of class. If they ask during the times I discourage I explain its not ideal then send them to the bathroom quickly. That being said in the past I have had parents write notes that their kid is having issues and it made the child feel more comfortable asking me or other teachers to go. A note to all your child's teachers may help your child speak up? It will also remind the teachers to ask your child if they need a break.

I should add it was at a time she couldn't get a pass to the bathroom (they were all in use) and she didn't tell the teacher how urgent it was.

I am just stunned that you don't let your kids go to the bathroom. Seriously.

That's rough OP. Have you talked to the school counselor?
