Americorps. Maybe Peace Corps.

Yeah he can just make up some school activities like clubs and intramurals. Generally those aren’t checked.

It takes, what, 30 minutes to create an LLC and employer ID. Boom, you’re the “founder” of a company. And that’s an extreme example. Literally just make crap up. Summer in Alaska catching salmon with a commercial crew. All cash, no W2. Who the hell can verify that? Nobody.

AmeriCorps is a red flag. People there are dumber than rocks and the pay is terrible. Blue Devil is too good to waste life on that nonsense

So did you enlist/receive a commission?

My sister received a commission. She was an Ivy graduate. University of Pennsylvania Wharton Business School.

Why does he even need a job? Can't the parents continue to support his lifestyle? It seems like he wasn't raised to be independent.

Do you even know what Americorps is?
You’re not supposed to do it for rhe pay—it’s a year of service.

Pivot here from the lack of work history: shouldn't someone be getting this kid a psychological assessment to see if there is an issue? I mean what did he do all summer for at least 3 summers? Sleep all day? What did he do after class each and everyday for 4 years?

And did he have any good grades or just made it out of Duke?

I'd say put him in a master's program and have him start applying for on campus jobs and build a resume from there.

Obvious answer and I can’t believe this wasn’t mentioned yet: It’s a presidential election year with billions of dollars out there sloshing around. Gotta think a fresh Duke grad with an econ degree can make some coin hustling in a swing state.

What the heck did kid do while at Duke?

I’m a Duke grad. Excluding my summer jobs and not working during the school year, I still would have been able to list a leadership role in a club, volunteer experience with a different club, random volunteer stints in the hospital and nursing home, organizing an on campus event, and some classes that have work-like experiences as part of the curriculum. And that’s just what I can come up with off hand 20 years later! The vast majority of my peers were also highly involved in many different activities.

Look, what's done is done. What is realistic if the resume has nothing on it?

But just to feed the troll, there is zero reason why someone who graduated with an Econ degree from Duke can't figure out WTH they need to do to find a job. They're an adult.

Seriously. My 9th grader put together a resume and shopped it around this summer for positions without my help (initially). I just happened to find it on my desktop. I can understand helping to spruce it up, but they should have something to work with.

It makes sense he didn't work summer 2021 after freshman year because it was still all weir because of covid.

but he should have worked 2022 summer and 2023 summer.

how did this happen? what DID he do all summer?? how did he get pizza and beer money?

we need more details, op. It is very strange for someone graduating from college to have ZERO work history.

DS graduated from Brown with a degree in economics in two weeks with a junior internship, and is still looking for jobs. DS has fifteen friends from Brown with the same major. Of those fifteen, five received job offers because their families are super wealthy with so many connections. The remaining ten, DS included, have been looking for jobs since January. It is not easy if you’re from MC and your families don’t have connections in this job market environment. Going to Brown has not helped DS so far.

People need to get out of the McLean, Langley, great falls, Bethesda, and Potomac bubble.
