I don't know about that. My child was at the top 10 percent of admits and they do not have 4 years of housing.

It is actually more based on financial aid. Kids receiving aid need 4 years of housing because living off campus is more expensive.

Not true. My kid is at BC with 4 years of housing and we are full pay. They have friends who are on financial aid and got only 3 years of housing. I honestly don't know what goes into the decision

I went BC and Harvard (2 grad degrees)

In Mass, the BC degree started more conversations and manifested more positive feelings. Harvard seemed like a place that was not accessible for many. BC was a conversation starter.

In DC, people liked Harvard b/c they could add my name to grants and claim me as a trophy hire, but it did not help as much as the BC degree for things I really wanted to do.

BC for sure

Michigan has amazing history departments but the size is comically large -

Just way too many kids

Equal prestige but BC gives you the private school experience while Michigan gives you a large public school experience for private school tuition. Go private.

University of Michigan #2
Boston College. #54

That’s a comically huge difference!

Between them, its a matter of personal preference.

It's not like BC vs Notre Dame.

This would have a practical impact if kid was applying for a PhD program. Rankings are waaaay overrated at the undergraduate level.

I’d choose Mixhigan over either.
