This. The Ocean City beaches are WAY CLEANER than the Delaware beaches as they are further from New Jersey. Ocean City beaches are wide and flat. Delaware beaches are narrow and crowded. New JErsey beaches are the dirtiest followed by Delaware beaches and Ocean City beaches are the cleanest given the distance from New Jersey and New York. |
There is no need to build upscale hotels at DE/MD beaches. The demand far outweighs the supply. They can charge JW/Ritz prices without offering all the amenities and with far less customer expectations.
Plus staffing that type of property for a pretty short season is difficult. |
henlopen condos - hopefully renovated |
It’s too late for OP but for others who use the info in this thread, isn’t there something about a difference in north OC versus south? Or am I thinking of Va Beach? |
Try Cavalier VA Beach. Maybe more what you are looking for. |
Yes and no. The reality is they have built some newer, nicer hotels towards the boardwalk. Hilton recently bought and renovated the dunes manor hotel (or whatever it was called). I bet it’s nice. OC really isn’t as bad as people believe. The newer Hilton’s and marriotts are nice than anything you’ll find in rehoboth. |
Agree with the bolded. I prefer OC. Rehoboth is at the mouth of the Delaware River, where all the waste treatment water from Phily and New Jersey empties out of. |
OC also does a good job cleaning the trash off of the beach each day with the specialized beach cleaner vehicles. |
The flies can be bad in Assateague if there is no breeze. The beach is top tier at Assateague. |
