Yeah, these are some of my favorite posts on IG. I'll play. We're from Bethesda and pay a premium on home services the minute anyone hears our address. |
Power to the people who don’t participate in social media, aren't online, and don’t care about pop culture in that way. But it is very interesting to see how many confused and completely out of the loop people felt that they still needed to contribute. It explains a lot of the threads on here… |

This is about as original as "I'm a person. Of course I eat food."
And yes, I know the TikTok trend. |
You have to be more specific to be funny. Try something like....
We're from Bethesda. Of course our designer dog gets her hair styled more often than I do. We're from Bethesda. Of course we call an uber to take us to dinner at in Chevy Chase when we could just walk 6 minutes to ride a few stops on the metro. We're from Bethesda. Of course we pay $15 for a gallon of organic milk to be delivered to the little white box on our front porch every Tuesday. |
Yes! That’s exactly how I was feeling but you articulated it better than I did. There are so many angry replies! And someone called it a “cheer?” What are they going to tell someone on another thread, wait for your boyfriend to pin you before you tell everyone you’re going steady??? |
I’ll play.
I’m from Bethesda. I live in a $1400 per month studio in a basement. I take public transportation. I have student loans. I like ice cream and Italian food. I collect stamps. |
I think this thread opened my eyes quite a bit - and those of you who think you are holier than though for not being on social media, you are like those kids who are homeschooled and then are totally clueless about culture. And all your time on dcum is probably rotting your brain as much as tik tok would. |
Toxic as DCUM but here you are. |
I’m one of the people that has never seen this. I am on FB and have Instagram mostly for my teens’ activities but have never seen this. Sorry it’s blowing your mind!
My bigger problem with this thread is that none of it really seems apt. I mean, none of it is like “oh, good one—you totally got me/us”. They just aren’t witty enough or don’t seeel to actually represent anyone I know. Maybe “we’re from bethesda, of course we spend our weekends driving up and down 270 to kids’ sporting events.” That one at least feels true. Although still not witty. Or “we’re from bethesda, of course we overspent on our houses so we can complain about locked bathrooms at our kids’ high schools”. The stuff about having subs or shopping at farmers markets doesn’t feel like it’s any more true of bethesda than any ptjer American suburb. Probably fewer suvs than most suburbs. |

LOL, way to be smug but you’ve been gone a really long time. The Farm Women’s market is still there. There is also a large farmer’s market in the BE parking lot on Sundays. It’s been there for years. |

+1. The Farm Women's Market is barely there anymore. It has been slowly dying for years. The property is on the market and will be another high rise in 5 years. The OP was, indeed, talking about the farmer's market in the parking lot of Bethesda Elementary. |
I’m on all those other apps and I’ve never seen this before. I guess the algorithm skipped me because I only engage with content that’s actually funny or interesting. |
