UVA vs Penn State

University of Virginia Agricultural college. Good ag school in Charlottesville. Ag is important in Virginia. Penn State has good ag programs, too, to be fair.

But UCLA (University of Caucasians Lost Among Asians) Cal (Berkeleyis a cesspool), and Michcan't beat OSU are the only widely known public schools. I wood think good AG schools like UVA and Penn State would be more popular outside the DMV bubble. Weird

I am a VT alum, but this is just not true. Come on.

I don’t think people in CA are thinking about UVA. I went to school in Boston and was not familiar with UVA until I moved here. DH went to Yale and there was one girl from UVA who was at Yale for grad school. I think she was the first person I met from UVA. I thought nothing of UVA meaning she should have said she went to Iowa or Kentucky and I would also have thought nothing of it.

We live in NOVA and realize it is a state gem and well loved. I also know you need a 4.5 gpa to get in. That doesn’t mean people in CA or MA feel the same.

Sure some people may not know UVa that much.

But PP claimed PSU is more well known than UVa. To me that’s a border line trolling.

Michigan has beaten Ohio State three years in a row. Try to keep up.

Some people out west know about UVA, but I don't think it's all that highly regarded by most Californians, not like it is in the DC area, which is fine. It makes sense that a state school is more highly regarded in the region than outside of it. Only schools like Cal, UCLA and Michigan probably have a high national profile.

No, it’s that UVA in-state is so expensive that $5k closes the gap.

The UVA cohort is first-rate, but unfortunately, engineering and even CS are nothing special. CS is still the best program in VA, but last I knew, it was ranked around 25th nationally. UVA is also kind of weak at other STEM fields like Physics or Bio. It's wonderful for French Lit or Poly Sci.

And only 2 wins the previous 20, try to keep up. Harbaugh is gone so get used to more losing.

PSU may well be better known than UVA due to size and football. "More well known" isn't the issue. It is being more highly regarded by those in positions of influence. There, I believe UVA has the edge.

I live in Calfornia and UVA is not top of mind there the way it is in DCUM. But that isn't surprising due to distance.

I find this to be a very funny discussion. I grew up in Texas, played sports for UT. I heard about UVA. I also knew about PSU.

Both are fine universities! We have a kid at UVA and one at PSU. I personally think UVA is great, BUT I prefer the vibe at PSU.

I would let your kid decide. Very different places.

They also beat OSU 9 out of 11 times in the nineties. It’s cyclical. You’ve got Ryan Day now who is 1-3 against Michigan, not Urban Meyer. I think you need to get used to it. In the meantime this is a thread about PSU and Ohio State. Try to stay on topic.

Outside the DC bubble, people don’t know Cal on the East Coast.

Whatever your petty squabble…that’s just not true. Now most know it as Berkeley.
