Skidmore is preppy???

Not really. The overall vibe is pretty eclectic.

Sewanee is about as preppy as it gets. It's not uncommon to see bowties in class.

Historically, Skidmore has been the exact opposite of preppy. This post tells me that many parents are in denial about their artsy offspring.

I can’t hear or read “Skidmore” and not think “skid marks”. Lol

Lawrence, Y
Hamilton, NO - I think admissions have gotten way too competitive lately
Colgate, Y
Connecticut College Y
Trinity College Y

So you mean ST. Lawrence or Lawrence? If you don’t know the difference between the two, then you have no business spitting out conclusory answers.

But yes, St. Lawrence is a traditional, preppy school right in OP’s swing zone. Hamilton is also quite preppy but may be out of OP’s range. Same with Colgate. Conn College and Trinity are both preppy and could also be good choices for OP.

Yeah, Skidmore is not preppy. It’s artsy and left to say the least.

ETA: Conn College definitely leans more left and loose than Trinity. Trinity is more of the traditional preppy.

I totally would. Sporty and preppy. Very homogenous looking.

My kid who didn't want preppy rejected Conn College after visiting

Hey, I never even heard of "Lawrence" in WI until tonight. I assumed the poster I was responding to meant St. Lawrence in NY, since I had never heard of the one in Appleton WI. I think we all learned a lot, thanks to you.

Not with a 1300 SAT (test optional might help though)

I have a 4.0 uw/4.4 weighted, decent extracurriculars (I’m not curing cancer XD, but I am in a government funded program tho and have been volunteering all four years), but SATs only in the mid 1300s.

Does a 1300 accurately reflect your abilities? If not, maybe a little coaching would improve it a lot and you could aim higher.

This is a good point

I think this characterization is so dated for UVA. It just doesn't seem to apply accurately when I walk around the grounds.

Are most kids there preppy? No. But DC goes to a NE boarding school, and the highest number of matriculations are to Georgetown and UVA.

+1

All the partners in my uncle's law firm send their kids to UVA. Boston College is another.

Agree. It also seems popular with kids of media & show business people. Springsteen’s kid, Tim Russert’s son. Lots of sports journalists’ kids. Even Jack Ryan went there.
