Rubio warns republicans not to capitalize politically on wikileaks hacked emails

Even though Rubio has many positions I would not agree with, I respect his comments about wikileaks. Seems encouraging that there are many in Republican side who still can think intelligently. Wish he could have not endorsed Trump.

"As our intelligence agencies have said, these leaks are an effort by a foreign government to interfere with our electoral process and I will not indulge it,” Rubio tells ABC news. "Further, I want to warn my fellow Republicans who may want to capitalize politically on these leaks: Today it is the Democrats. Tomorrow it could be us."

Rubio's stand puts him directly at odds with Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee, which have been relentlessly hammering Hillary Clinton and her campaign over the contents of the hacked emails.

"Wikileaks has provided things that are unbelievable," he said at a rally in Colorado Tuesday, accusing the media of ignoring the ongoing leaks. "The media you have to remember is an extension of the Hillary Clinton campaign. It's an extension. And without that she would be nowhere."

But while Trump regularly taunts the news media for not paying enough attention to the stolen emails, Rubio argues that making an issue out of the Wikileaks disclosures plays into the hands of the Russian government.

"I will not discuss any issue that has become public solely on the basis of Wikileaks,” Rubio tells ABC news.

The bolded statements are the essence of my issue with wikileaks. They are perpetrating national espionage and their revelation must be rejected by every American.

I agree. I'm not a fan of his, but this a really mature response.

Sad that this level of insight is so rare that it stands out.

Rubio and Kasich were my two top choices during the primaries. Also, his work with the gang of 8 proved that he could work with both sides and that he was willing to compromise to figure out a moderate solution.

More in Republicans acting reasonable:

Kasich and Conway both speak out at the ridiculousness of the voter fraud and rigged election claims.

Yet Conway is still Trump's campaign manager so it's hard to take her seriously.

Yeah, I know. I think they're all trying to do damage control, but it's too little too late. I really hope there isn't violence after the results are announced, but I fear there will be.

An admirable response.

Unlike that of McCain, who boasted Republicans would automatically oppose any proposal by Madame President.

I supported Kasich in the primaries, and would have supported Rubio if he'd run as "gang of 8" Rubio rather than doing that hard rightward lurch during the primary. I think part of the reason he was so robotic during the primary may have been that the views he was espousing didn't really come naturally to him, they were too extreme/uncompromising, so he couldn't really back the up beyond his prepared lines. I can't swear I'd vote for him in a future election (it would depend on who he was running against), but I can't swear him off either. If he continues to take these kinds of reasonable approaches to issues, he'll definitely be back on my radar.

Listen, he is 'endorsing' trump by way of necessity. Just look past it because politically it's what is needed for him to win the senate again. I might do the same, especially when anyone intelligent can read between the lines and understand that Rubio *hates* DT.

Rubio is a great moderate, which we need more of.

He's not really a moderate.

No, but he is willing to reach across the aisle. That's what both parties need to do.

No, only on immigration, no other issue.

Stop trying to graft narratives and find nuances that don't exist. He is the way he is due to his intellectual limitations. He has always been like this and still is. Go read his history, he has eternally been a lazy do-nothing who has walked over everyone he ever knew, even back as a state senator.

By the way, I don't know how you can get excited over this. All he is doing is admitting that the republicans have a sordid history too.

'If you have nothing to hide.....' it's extremely hypocritical.
