S/o explain "except for rape and incest"

Anonymous
I have never understood this position- why is a baby conceived out of rape/incest any less worthy of life than a baby conceived via consensual sex? To me, it's even more obnoxious than the "no abortions EVER" people because it basically reveals that you don't give an actual shit about the baby, you just want to hold the mother "responsible" for her choices and face the consequences.

Gross.

Because outlawing abortion is all about punishing women who get pregnant, and women who were victims of rape or incest have already been punished enough.

I don't see what's unclear about this.

I understand what you mean OP. It is really annoying that some people seek to make this distinction. I totally get that a rape victim shouldn't be forced to carry a baby, but no one should.

It makes no sense because if you are not legally able to do something in scenario A but you are in scenario B, then you have to prove what scenario you are in. Asking a woman to "prove" she was raped seems inhumane not to mention this could take months or years to work through the legal system. I don't get how it would work - because it is not designed to work. It is another obstacle to abortion.

Because the woman had no choice in the case of rape and incest. And in the case of she chose to have sex--chose to engage in the activity that CAUSES pregnancy, and chose not to use protection--well, then this is the result of her choices.

Don't want to fail out of college? Go to class, study, turn in the work. You may still fail, but at least you did everything you could not to.

Don't want to have your possessions to be stolen? Lock your doors and windows, and get a security system. You may still be robbed, but you took reasonable precautions against it.

Don't want to have a baby? Use protection. You may still get pregnant, but at least you took reasonable measures against it.

It's a sugar coating of scary language to get white suburbanites to support abortion bans. I don't know that any women have ever satisfied this legal requirement, although I'm open to hearing statistics.

So exactly what 13:50 said, it's about punishing women for having sex.

Really op? I love children and all, but the woman caring the child is not just a vessel it's an actual living, breathing human with feelings you know. Op have you ever been raped by a stranger or through incest and you were pregnant? I'm guessing no, so don't dictate how people in traumatizing life events should or should not act. Get the hell out of your bubble world and go experience life. You are just too close-minded and sheltered.

Yeah thanks for confirming so beautifully that you dipshits don't actually care about the innocent babies at all.

I don't think the OP is pushing for rape and incest victims to have to carry their attackers baby. I think she is just trying to figure out why this dichotomy exists.

+1, as 15:14 elucidated so clearly.
