Senate Democrats sending secret letter about Kavanaugh to FBI

Anonymous
Yeah. I kind of ran with this crowd, am around the same age, and went to one of the big 3 in the DC area. I believe it.

I've seen this exact scenario involved occur in this crowd (both in high school, college, law school, and working in DC as a young attorney) and I'm not shocked this happened (not am I shocked they got a pile of women to deny it because protecting status is way, way more important than protecting people -- See the Andover scandal). I've pulled girlfriends out of situations exactly described by this woman. The loud music is the biggest detail that gives me chills.

I think the thing I find the most compelling is that the woman reported spending years getting mental health treatment to work through this trauma. She probably has those receipts. People don't spend years in therapy talking about being raped and try to heal privately if there isn't a legitimate trauma there. If she was going to pull a stunt, Judge K was running around and previously confirmed for years. There's probably a reason why she brought this out now.

I also think Judge K disclosed this and she was probably contacted during the FBI background check. My guess is that is how this whole thing blew up. The woman in the letter probably felt like she needed to tell her story before someone else did. I imagine the GOP knew as well and got the framework to get those signatures because a woman I know on that list (spilling tea) was contacted quite a bit ago. My friend hasn't come out yet, but she's considering it. She's trying to weigh the professional/personal damage from getting involved.

This.

I'm a younger than Kavanaugh, but I went to AHC. I know girls from AHC, Visi and GC who were raped by guys from Prep, Gonzaga, SJC and GC. And know several more girls who were nearly raped at parties as well. And it was universally the ahole jocks.

When I read the alleged account, it sounded so familiar. It happened to 3 girls I know. Literally.

I hope the woman is brave enough to come forward and take him down. I am disgusted when I run into the rapists from high school at their daughter's basketball game, etc. I'm always tempted to comment on what they did...what we all know they did...yet they walk around like nothing happened.

I think that in the MeToo era we now live in it would have been tough for Feinstein to sit on the information. Referring it to the FBI who is responsible for doing his background check seems like the right thing to do. Under normal circumstances Grassley should have done this himself

I think that's the problem. Everyone's in this small world and trying to call out this issue is probably going to be more trouble than what it's worth. People's standing in their schools, clubs, jobs are all linked and getting involved beyond toeing the line and saying nothing to see here is going to be problematic.

I do think it's interesting that more of us aren't even willing to talk off the record. I figured journalist would have at least gotten the story there because it was an obvious issue.

+1 to the letter. I know people on this list, and they were asked to sign on as a "character witness," but knew nothing of the potential allegations. It was a bait and switch.

No one said they anticipated it. Ever heard of social media? Pretty sure that the girls' school alums are likely pretty close knit, even today. How long would it take to put that together? Not long at all. Especially, if a few of them are very good friends of his. And, yes, the girls' schools and the boys' schools do socialize together.

But, I'm sure we will get more information when the woman gets her television interview.

As an alum of a DC girls' school, I can safely say it probably took 10 minutes to pull that list together. The DC Catholic and private school network is incredibly tight knit. I don't like Brett Kavanaugh, and definitely don't want him confirmed, but I know most of the women on that list. Hell, I've probably been to a party with Brett Kavanaugh.

But just because 65 women weren't sexually assaulted doesn't mean that one wasn't.

THANK YOU. I’m the PP who seriously doubted that someone who graduated from Prep 35+ years ago could find 65 women who even knew who he was in high school, much less could vouch for his character then. I went to NCS, still live in DC, have a dozen VERY close friends from high school and would have a hard time coming up with 65 MEN, who obviously didn’t actually go to high school with me, vouching for my high school character with two days notice. My husband, who went to the New Jersey Georgetown Prep equivalent, said the same thing. It’s not believable.

I think you've misunderstood the PP. She was saying it's completely believable that this list of women was pulled together very quickly.

Well yes, but also that it’s unbelievable that every single one of them knew him in high school and can personally vouch for his character at that time? Because that sounds like some bullsh!t.

Seems to me that when this many women organize themselves to write a letter, it speaks to his strong character and integrity. Combine that with the numerous other character statements already submitted and he seems to be a man above reproach.

Not if they're all Trumpkins or paid to do so.

Not only do you think it’s okay to spread rumors that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted someone in high school but now you want to spread rumors that it’s standard behavior for boys at like Landon and Prep to sexually assault girls. Good grief, you are sick. And no, I’m not associated with either of those schools in any way. And I’m a moderate registered Democrat who feels like she’s lost her party.

It’s not rumors, it is allaegations. Perhaps you should actually read the article.

“Allegations” made by some anonymous person who curiously has come out of the woodwork after 30 years. And it doesn’t even sound like she is alleging something illegal. A boy tried to kiss me in high school!!!

Yep. I remember something similar happening to me at that age. I'm not about to dredge it up now, 30 yrs. later. This is beyond idiotic.

Maybe you should. It sounds like you still have some open psychological wounds that haven't healed.

There needs to be far more nuanced view here. A single incident from 30+ years ago should not destroy anyone's life, whether male or female. Being a Democrat, I am no fan of Judge K or of how the Republican Senate treated Garland. I no doubt would vote against him if I were a Senator. But everybody has gone too far here. There is a huge difference between what we think Judge K did today, what Bill did over decades, and then what Donald did over decades. Huge range of behaviors. I do not where the line is, but it is not at zero. Take the Duke lax scandal. As it turns out, the boys did not do what everybody was screaming about. But what is acknowledged is that a college lax team hired a stripper for a team party. That itself is inappropriate, though not illegal. The screaming around that scandal was overblown, and ignored what we know really happened.

Wrong.

Chances are she either didn't tell her parents, or she did but they advised her not to pursue it.

Chances are everyone at Prep and her school heard about it and she was teased about it for years (that's what happened to the local girls I knew).

Chances are this impacted her for decades.

Chances are she never shared all the gory details with her husband, and she definitely never told her kids.

Chances are she and her husband run in circles with people who like Kavanaugh and/or his pals, and their jobs and social life could be affected...as well as their kids' lives/friendships/school, etc.

Plenty of reasons to stay anonymous.

Oh look, another one of those "I'm a Democrat but..." posts.

We all know you're a pro- Kavanaugh shill so just cut the crap. An attempted sexual assault is no comparison to hiring a stripper for a party - don't even try to justify it.

My DH went to one of these schools in the early 80's, and partied with this crowd when Prep was known to be the worst of the worst. We know a woman who was approached to sign the "good character" letter and refused. Kavanaugh was the quiet, smart guy who hung back, but watch out when he was drinking. At Yale he was part of drunk boys frat. I have no doubt that other women have stories about him.

But that’s it - it’s not going to destroy his life. He’s already had by every measure a REALLY NICE life, with a wife and a great career including a federal judgeship and a white picket fence in Chevy Chase and two kids and two country clubs. Do you think he ever sought psychological help because of this “single incident?”

This. I am a member of this community and this is the truth.

It's going to be awful when, and I mean when, this woman's name is released against her will. It will get out as retribution. I hope she's prepared.

She lives on the West Coast so she's somewhat detached from this group. And there are lots of other women from that crowd who are happy to back her up and support her. Notice how probably most of the women on the Grassley letter still live in the DC area - they're the ones who're protecting their standing in the community.

This.

I'm a bit younger than Kavanaugh, but this crap was still happening when I came up through the local catholic private school scene. This was rampant.

And it started in 7-8th grade...at least it did at my catholic school. By high school things got aggressive. And it was the quiet jocks who hung back until they either had the nerve or were coaxed into doing it. Alcohol was always involved.

I won't name names or provide years, but everyone from my age group can tell stories of girls being dragged into bedrooms or being pinned against walls by multiple guys. Field parties seemed safer than house parties precisely because there weren't any bedrooms to be dragged into.

Unless you went to any of these schools back in the day, you have no way of knowing that the corporate moguls, lawyers, and local car dealer in dcumlandia were raping girls at parties in high school.

Chances are she'll get attacked by angry RWNJs. They doxxed David Hogg, and they'll do the same and worse to her.
