A few departures:
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/08/08/snl-season-42-taran-killam-jay-pharoah-depart Two big names won’t be returning for Saturday Night Live season 42. Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah are departing the long-running NBC sketch comedy show, a network spokesperson confirmed to EW on Monday night. Killam transformed into one of the marquee players on SNL over his six seasons. Though he inked a seven-year deal, and had assumed the upcoming season would be his last, Killam told Uproxx his contract was not picked up. “I don’t know the other side of it,” he said. “I was never given a reason why, really. I can assume until the cows come home. But I do know I’m directing this movie [Why We’re Killing Gunther with Arnold Schwarzenegger] and I’ll have two months of post-production that would have bled into the SNL production schedule, so we kind of communicated that. … I wasn’t going to have to take any time off to do it, but it was a thing that they would have had to okay.” |

I really really like jay pharoah. He is just so naturally funny without being HAHA funny at all. So good.
Killam is on almost every sketch. Woah. |
| Killam was very versatile, so that is surprising. Jay Pharoah, not so much. He had a couple of good impressions but is not much of an actor. |
|
Killam was like the poor man's Phil Hartman, he could do every man in every scene, but was a little blander and less funny.
I did like Jay Pharoah's impressions. I hope this leaves more time for things from Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and not more of Kyle Mooney. I swear he is like a bad Woody Allen to me and I think Lorne Michaels just likes him because he reminds him of a young Lorne Michaels. |
| I didn't think Kilam's impersonations were good. Pharoah was not that versatile. The current cast, minus those 2 is on fire. They are some of the most talented SNL cast members in history IMO. |
| I'm going to miss Jedadiah Atkinson, although he hadn't done him in a while. |
| The only new cast member last year, John Rudnitsky, is also gone. |

Taran Killam, Jay Pharaoh, and Jon Rudnitsky won't return to Studio 8H for season 42 of Saturday Night Live this fall, but the show's remaining cast is still on board for this fall. Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Bobby Moynihan, and Vanessa Bayer are among the cast members back for the NBC sketch comedy stalwart, the network confirmed to EW on Tuesday. Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che are slated back, as are Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Beck Bennett, and Sasheer Zamata. |
| People still watch this show? Who knew. |
| They need to pull the plug--the best days of SNL are long long over. |
But the best material is yet to come. |
No new shows until October though. |
|
Sorry, SNL is often still on point and hilarious. Nobody cares if it was "better" in the older days. My spouse loves all the stuff from 10-20 years ago, but I find it boring.
Moral of the story: show is still relevant and many people enjoy it, even if you don't. |
+1. We DVR it every week it is new. I like 10-20 years ago as well. Not a fan of the early stuff. I liked Eddie Murphy but Dan akroyd and belushi were never my thing. I basically like from the Phil Hartman days on. |
Ugh, I wish they'd get rid of Cecile .She's so rigid and can't execute her lines well. |
