Need gift ideas for baseball coaches

Anonymous
I would like some gift ideas for my DS's baseball coaches. We have two coaches. I've collected $130 from the team. (Kids are 6-8 years old) I'm thinking of spending $80 for the main coach and $50 for the assistant coach. I've got two baseballs signed by all kids and displayed in a plastic case for each coach and for that, i spent my own money. But for bigger gifts, I would like some ideas....I thought of gift certificate for restaurants, but I don't really know what these coaches like to eat. I thought of a gift card for HomeDepot, but I don't know if they are handy men.....So much to consider...Any ideas?

My husband coached my son's team for years. He would have loved the baseball with the kids' signatures -- very nice idea. He received a similar gift one year -- a cooler with the kids' signatures -- more practical, but I like the sentimentl value of the baseball in the display case. The team also gave both coaches gift cards to Jaleo, so for several years we enjoyed a lovely end-of-season dinner with the co-coach and his wife. Gift cards to Modell's or Sports Authority are also nice -- esp. as baseball coaches usually buy a case of balls at the beginning of each season.

I love the idea of the kids signing a cooler. Did they use Sharpie markers? How did the signatures hold up after using the cooler? May give this a try for our baseball coaches.

My Dh is in his 6th season of coaching baseball (also coaches football & basketball).

His favorite gifts are the personal things from the kids, so I think the signed baseballs are great and the coaches will love them. We have also gotten the team picture, framed and matted, and all the kids had signed the matte around the picture, and also some wonderful photo books (eg, shutterfly or snapfish) with pictures taken throughout the season.

For the cash you collected, I'd get them gift cards either to a big sporting goods store (b/c frankly, my Dh spends a lot of money buying additional equipment and other things for the team as well as lots of gear for our own kids, and even if these guys don't spend a lot on that, you know they are at least interested in sports and can always use the gift cards to buy clothing, running shoes, etc.), or Visa gift card. You really can't go wrong with a generic card like Visa that's basically the same as cash. Unless you know the coaches pretty well, you might have a harder time choosing a restaurant or other store to get a gift card for.

This past spring we gave the autographed baseballs to both the head & asst coach like you are doing and I think gift cards to Amazon.... or maybe Dick's Sporting Goods.

The amounts you have suggested are fine.

My DH got a restaurant gift card for coaching and it was great.

our team forgot the manager last year and it was very awkward. They spend a lot of time behind the scenes.

If you ask local Sports bar they have matched my amount so if there are 4 coachs and I collected 100 from parents they gave me 200 worth of cards.
